He wants to retain players, case in point being the biggest retention piece in Rob Wright III, who's coming back for his junior season with the Cougars.

But you think about players that are on this year's roster that could come back Next season, Jake Walleen, Colin Chandler, Rob Wright III, who I mentioned, Tyler Betsy, Brody Kozlowski, Hadeem Boop, Peter Ostich, Dovidas Buika, Brooks Barr, Dean Rickert, Bruce Branch III.

And look, Bruce Branch is going to be a one and done.

But if he wanted to stay a year, I guess they could.

[sighs] Sad part is, it could linger for quite a while here, and that, that's a tough part to stomach, I know as a fan, because you want nothing more than to be like, "Okay, this is who we've got." You know, you know who the heavy hitters outside of that are.

You've got Rob Wright, you've got Bruce Branch III, you've got Collin Chandler.

You got guys like Khadeem Buie.

Like, you've got some pretty phenomenal pieces.

he's not going to be one of these guys to where if i have the ball that's when i'm going to do all my work on the offensive end like away from the ball he's going to be active and he's going to be working which i think that's going to fit in byu's system pretty well because you mentioned earlier that they have Rob Wright.

They're also bringing back Colin Chandler as well.

So if you're worried about like how much on ball juice Bruce Branch is going to be able to bring to your team, he's not going to be alone.

Like you, we might be frustrated sometimes, honestly, though, Jim, like watching him, like where is the creation ability? Is he going to be able to initiate pick and rolls and, and find players and things like that.

He actually looks good.

You know, like most people do when, when you have numbers, like he, you feel nervous when he has the ball, if you're on the defensive end, good vision, um, can pass out of shots as well, which I think is, you know, to speak to the dynamism, you know, sometimes I think we kind of look at the dynamic ability of a player and think, okay is he like strong explosive above the rim and stuff like that but i think too you know the ability to go into a shooting motion to attract the defense and then you can dump the ball off or then you can do that escape route pass like out to the strong side and stuff like that um can do some live uh excuse me live dribble uh diming as well so not one of these guys that has to stop pick up this dribble and survey to find the advantage on the court which i really like um And I think that a lot of his stuff is like risk reward decision making to which that's my hope for the on ball stuff that you just spoke on earlier jam is like if BYU with the two guards that they have.

made a joke in our chat that like bruce branch is going to have to lock rob right in a closet if he's going to want some on-ball reps this year just because oh rob is rob is going to want the ball and it's nothing against him like he's good with the ball in his hands like that's his best ability i think that he brings to a team right so him same thing with colin chandler so you got two guys who are best with the ball in their hand if you have the ball like you're kind of taking away the strengths from others.

So I think that's like the developmental kind of like tap point with him is if you can get him comfortable as a pick and roll ball handler, let him grow as like that risk reward decision maker, like advancing the ball down the, down the court, down into the, like the next level of the defense.

Me, you, and Matt Biamonte, we all kind of looked at each other like, is this team going to be okay? Should we be concerned? So I don't feel like that's going to be an issue with this year's squad.

I think it really helps to have more local guys on the team, picking up guys like Colin Chandler out of the portal.

Jake Walleen out of the portal.

I think that really helps just because they understand kind of the makeup of BYU, the history.

He's got a fifth year of eligibility after this one that he could return next season.

The juniors are the heart and soul of the team.

Colin Chandler, Rob Wright III, and then Tyler Betsy comes in and Adam Stewart, a walk-on, basically a designated student athlete.

And then the sophomores, we got redshirt sophomore Brody Kozlowski, redshirt sophomore Hadim Boop, And then new faces, we'll say they're all freshmen.

It's not to say that Bruce Branch III doesn't draw eyeballs.

That doesn't mean that a guy like Rob Wright does that or Colin Chandler, but I think BYU, in terms of the way they've scheduled this this year, they have set themselves up, I think, with a very manageable schedule.

And assuming they use it to their advantage, they should be in a relatively good spot come the end of the season, assuming all goes well health-wise and everything else.

And they should, I think most people believe, and I believe it, at minimum, even with or without Jackson Kohler, because that situation still remains outstanding in terms of his injunction status.
