Oh, I would assume so.

Joining me for this discussion will be Jamie Hubbard of Classics Fame

and Spencer Harden of Longview Collies.

So let's jump right into the conversation.

I'm so excited to welcome Jamie and Spencer to this episode of The Roundtable.

Something I maybe would add to it is how referring back to your standard, to me, I think what's interesting is how the standard, my understanding of the standard has matured over the years.

It's like when I first started out, there were certain things that I noticed that I understood.

And as I've gotten to talk to other people and how they've explained it, like, I'm in Collies, so there's a lot of head detail, the muzzle, where the eyes are, and there's a lot of detail described in our standard, but what does that look like in real life? What does it feel like? And so getting to go to the National is great because you get to go over these dogs.

One of my mentors challenged me to put my hands on at least 30-some dogs.

She remained always between him and the way he wanted to go.

Here, Collie! cried the strange man in the carriage.

Weed and Scott laughed.

White Fang will have to learn many things, and it's just as well that he begins now.

He'll adjust himself all right.

The carriage drove on, and still Collie blocked White Fang's way.

He tried to outrun her by leaving the drive and circling across the lawn, but she ran on the inner and smaller circle, and was always there, facing him with her two rows of gleaming teeth.

I actually had a troubleshooting Tuesday today where I had that exact conversation.

Someone who'd come with a collie.

Collie is herding and nipping other dogs that come near her.

And she was really, like, really dedicated, really trying to kind of work things through.

But she's obviously come from the very simple form of, you know, like, food equals good and we reward.

Yeah.

Collie?

Nope.

Oh, no.

THE GOOSE WHO WANTED HER OWN WAY It would be hard to tell which family is the most important among the farmyard people.

There is no one animal so wise as Collie, the farmer's dog, and all the rest love him and mind him when he is sent to bring them up from the pasture, or to drive them to the water.

Still he does not spend his days in barn or field, and only comes with his master, or for a visit now and then.

You may remember how the garter snake and the old tree frog were the leaders in the meadow, and how in the forest all looked up to the groundhog.

They got into the habit of running uphill when scared, and their children did the same, and their children's children did the same, and now even the farmyard sheep do so, although they long ago forgot the reason why.

Bow-wow-wow! rang out on the still morning air.

There's Collie! cried the lambs joyfully he's coming to take us home let's bleat to help him find us more quickly all the lambs said bah bah in their high soft voices and their mother said bah bah more loudly and the bell-wether added his bah bah which was so deep and strong that it sounded like a little very little clap of thunder collie came frisking along with his tail waving and his eyes gleaming he started the flock home and scolded them and made fun of them all the way but they were now so happy that they didn't care what he said when they were safely in the home meadow again and the farmer had mended the fence collie left them As he turned to go he called back one last piece of advice.

"'I'm a shepherd dog,' he said, "'and it's my work to take care of sheep when they can't take care of themselves.

He was.

He coached the Collie Saints back in 1987.

And, yeah.

There are so many things I want to ask him that I never thought I'd be able to ask a bloke like him.

Oh, look, it'll be great.

And he's also a big personality in Collie, so I'm sure he's got some really good stories to tell about the town of Collie and the southwest.

As the master reached the place and turned into the drive, both Lad and Lady, at sound of his far-off footsteps, came tearing around the side of the house to greet him.

On simultaneous sight and scent of the strange dog frisking along at his side, the two collies paused in their madly joyous onrush.

Up went their ruffs, down went their heads.

Lady flashed forward to do battle with the stranger who was monopolizing so much of the master's attention.

Nave was mildly surprised that a dog he had looked on as a dullard and a poltroon should have developed a flash of spirit.

But he was not at all unwilling to wage a combat whose victory must make him shine with redoubled glory in Lady's eyes.

Like two furry whirlwinds, the collies spun forward toward each other.

They met, upreared, and snarled, slashing wolf-like for the throat, clawing madly to retain balance.
