College of Magic

educational opportunity, you said?

Cape Town's College of Magic is buzzing.

That's

in South Africa.

So the journey starts like that.

I was at the College of Magic.

My classmates included Riyad Woosa.

Oh, Riyad.

And they had the Comedy Express and we had the Cape Comedy Collective.

And this comedy industry literally was born out of that.

And it started because of the College of Magic, because of my time there.

We had the founder of the College of Magic on, I want to say Dave.

We talk about a few of his amazing projects, be it documenting the Ebola outbreak in West Africa, following elephants through the streets of Zambia with a small task force intent on making sure no one, including the elephants, gets hurt, which is a project that won him a World Press Photo Award.

We meet child zappers in the mountains of Lesotho who go to school after dark, a story that became a 16-page feature in K.O. France magazine and spent some time at the wonderful, quirky College of Magic in Cape Town.

And somewhere between all the disasters and wonders, we also talk about writing, friendships, working freelance, fatherhood, or giving your best impression in a karaoke session.

If you're listening to learn how to become a spy for MI6, well, I'm afraid this probably isn't the right podcast for you.

But I'm pretty sure the last story I want to talk about, you did this because it's in Cape Town, the College of Magic.

Let's talk about something completely different now.
