College National Finals Rodeo

We're just as big as baseball, football.

When you make the national finals, that's the Super Bowl.

Will Lummus is as tough as they come.

I'm the kind of guy, like, if I want something, I go get it and I make it happen no matter what.

[laughs] Well, I was right about two of the three, right? The beard, the, the lovable personality, but not so much the other one.

Well, you know, the other one, uh, yeah, it's been gone for quite some time.

But, uh, you know, I think, I don't know, the first three years I made the national finals I didn't have the beard.

So I mean, I feel like I was, you know, I feel like I was kind of known before I got the beard.

So I went, I rode saddle broncs, and so I went to college, uh, ma- you know, I just wanted to rodeo.

So rode saddle broncs and made the College National Finals a couple times.

It stayed, you know, after I was out of eligibility.

Went to grad school just 'cause at the time I, you know, I had a band through college and we were cover band and it was a lot of fun, and a couple of my band mates were still in, uh, in college.

Um, so I did, I did, I did every event.

Uh, I, I almost made the College National Finals in the team roping, uh, but my, my header, he got ineligible.

We didn't get to rope [laughs] or he didn't get to rope second, uh, semester.

But, uh, so I did, I did every event, and the idea, I mean, I was, I was gonna be the next Ty Murray.

Yeah.

You s- you say that and I think back.

Uh, I went to the College National Finals one year, and Copenhagen was, like, the, the title sponsor, and they brought Ty Murray in there to give a speech one night and, you know, and, and, uh- I remember a girl standing up and saying, "Hey, you know, how d- how d- how do we get more, how do we get more sponsors?" And if you know Ty Murray, he was kinda like, "Win." And she's like, "No, we need sponsors right now." He said, "No, I mean win." That's how you get sponsors.

So I mean, that, that really stuck with me w- w- with, you know, with that.
