Yeah, it's interesting when you look at their roster this year in Dallas, using Dallas as an example, they have, I think, Florida signed Alex Petrovic and Nathan Bastian, and both of those players they put through waivers, so they're both going to be playing down in the minors.
Robert TiffinHOST
5:14
Colin Blackwell, who hadn't played in the AHL for six years since before COVID, he's now in training camp down.
Robert TiffinHOST
5:20
Our pal Steve Meserve reported he's down in training camp practicing with the Texas Stars.
Robert TiffinHOST

These are all players that, you know, in prior seasons this probably was less of a concern but this is kind of the class of player that i think is is maybe going to suffer as the cap goes up because so much of that money is just going to go to those big names these are the players where you know what we just don't even have room to carry a full roster right these are players who might they're definitely nhl quality players yeah but so many teams can't even can't even fit 23 guys in their roster because now they're having to give so much to other people so It's a strange new world, but those considerations like you talked about are things that maybe fans don't always think about, but players and their agents have to think about because that's just something you don't want to get caught with a really low two-way contract.
Joey EricksonHOST
9:04
That's for sure.
Joey EricksonHOST
9:05
Now, Colin Blackwell as well was put on waivers.
Joey EricksonHOST
9:08
He was not selected, which was fortunate.
Joey EricksonHOST
9:11
So he is in the NHL along with R2Huru, and that's great for Blackwell, I suppose, although...
Joey EricksonHOST
10:20
He's a good player.
Joey EricksonHOST
10:21
Injuries are going to happen, and the Stars are going to need him at some point.
Joey EricksonHOST
10:25
The Stars will need Colin Blackwell.
Joey EricksonHOST
10:26
More than likely, they're going to need Artu Huru.
AaronHOST
30:05
We're looking at Laurent Brassois.
AaronHOST
30:07
Colin Blackwell, who I think is a very serviceable NHL player.
AaronHOST
30:10
I've always been impressed when I watch him play.
Cam MeserveHOST
30:12
Mask guy.
ChrisHOST
56:52
Oscar's back.
ChrisHOST
56:53
I got Colin Blackwell, Matthew Shane, Roderick Foxx.
ThomasHOST
57:00
Just to be clear, we forgot everybody he's about to let.
ThomasHOST
57:04
Cameron
Scott LaughlinHOST
49:43
Uh, he was placed on waivers by the Stars, was Poirier, and New Jersey picked him up.
Scott LaughlinHOST
49:49
Guys like Laurent Brossoit and Henry Jokihari, Colin Blackwell, Dylan Goran from the Rangers.
Scott LaughlinHOST
49:55
Many think he's gonna get claimed by somebody also coming up today.
Scott LaughlinHOST
49:59
David Rittich, Big Save Dave, Ilya Samsonov Alexander Holtz, the one-time Devils prospect by Vegas.
JoshHOST
9:38
But the fact that he's back in the lineup for the Stars is massive.
JoshHOST
9:42
Matt Duchesne and Colin Blackwell, his teammates didn't play that game, but they're expected to be back for the season opener.
JoshHOST
9:50
And some good news, Macklin Celebrini has been named the new captain of the San Jose Sharks.
JoshHOST
9:55
Obviously, the kid deserves it after a massive, massive year with the Olympics and just the tear that he went on last season.
Joey EricksonHOST
13:23
The Dallas Stars certainly know who was going to be a part of the opening night lineup for the most part, I'd say 98% of the lineup, if not a hundred, was kind of already decided outside of what injuries may take place.
Joey EricksonHOST
13:38
Now, an update on Matt Duchesne and Colin Blackwell.
Joey EricksonHOST
13:41
So they both skated earlier today.
Joey EricksonHOST
13:45
So that's great news.
Louis BouletGUEST
21:33
in the Stars' bottom six, which is filled with a bunch of other defensive pieces, all who grade out really well in this.
Louis BouletGUEST
21:38
Like you're talking about Radek Faksa, Joel Kiviranta, uh, Oskar Bach, Colin Blackwell, all of those guys.
Louis BouletGUEST
21:44
But you're only getting, you know, absolute shutdown minutes if you're playing with those guys, right?
Blake CreamerHOST
21:49
Mm-hmm.
Stone StrankmanHOST
3:00
And he said the system is going to change, which I thought was super interesting because the defensive system changed last year.
Stone StrankmanHOST
3:06
The offense looked a little bit different, but still a little bit more of the, not timidness, but the waiting for the right moment to shoot the puck instead of just firing pucks on net, except for you saw that with the fourth liners, Justin Ritzkovi and Colin Blackwell, those kinds of guys would come in and do it.
Stone StrankmanHOST
3:22
But D'Amico Ranton and his White Johnsons wouldn't.
Stone StrankmanHOST
3:25
So I think we're going to see a weird... first month of the season.
Dom GarciaHOST
3:57
He has been spending some nights and seeing what changes he can make on a structural end.
Dom GarciaHOST
4:04
Because we did have to see it, unfortunately, last year due to a whole bunch of injuries and different times.
Dom GarciaHOST
4:11
I think he wants to go into this year kind of not solidifying a line or a specific group pairing, but kind of knowing what would work best with a Wyatt Johnston, with a Colin Blackwell, and then moving forward with that.
Dom GarciaHOST
4:28
When he says the offense isn't good enough as a Stars fan, it's so weird hearing that because I watch Wyatt Johnston, Mikko Rantanen, Rupe Hintz every night and be like, dude, call me crazy, but production when he was on the ice wasn't long, but it was still Tyler Sagan.
Ryan ChambersHOST
19:48
I hope he's okay.
Ryan ChambersHOST
19:50
Well, anyways, on the same front, since we're talking about injuries, Colin Blackwell had to be helped off the ice earlier on Saturday for practice.
Ryan ChambersHOST
20:01
He wasn't playing in the Saturday game.
Ryan ChambersHOST
20:04
I guess it was reported that he was walking around and he was fine.
Ryan ChambersHOST
20:27
I was just like, okay, now I'm over it.
Ryan ChambersHOST
20:31
But...
Ryan ChambersHOST
20:32
Yeah, I mean, again, I know it's just Colin Blackwell, and he's just probably a fourth-line player, but this team this year does not have the same depth that they've had in years past.
Ryan ChambersHOST
20:44
I mean, we've had to get rid of guys and had to trade away young players, Stankoven and Bork, you know, respectively, in order to keep the core of this group together.
