Cole Mathis

So I think I'll probably try to fill those right now.

First off, I'm going to go with, for Surprise, Cole Mathis in the infield.

Cole Mathis, he was drafted in 2024 by the Cubs, and I really like to pick at a time.

Like he had some very good data.

Uh, I remember coming out of college, but he just hasn't really been healthy.

So I catch her out of Boston Smith, my infield.

I'd probably arrange it.

Cole Mathis at first base, second base, Devlin, third base, Colby Shotton, shortstop, Arjun Amala.

Love to see him lift the ball a little bit more, but we'll see.

And then Cole Mathis was a Cub last time he was out.

He's now a New York Met.

And he hit 10 homers, 8 stolen bases with a .238 average in limited playing time.

Now, it is the end of the season now for the St. Lucie Mets and the Brooklyn Cyclones.

At the, at year's end, the Cyclones had four prospects on their roster that were acquired at the deadline, or I guess for Cole Mathis during the season, as that trade for David Peterson happened much earlier in the year.

You also had Sammy Stafura, who came over in the Luke Weaver trade, Aiden Smith, the other pro- the third prospect that came over in the Freddy Peralta trade, along with Gary Gilhill and Emilian Petre, and John Spikerman.

So those are the names the Mets added.

Still finished with an 857 OPS because of the work he did pre-injury with the Cubs.

Uh, big bat who's dealt with a lot of injuries so far in his career, but he could absolutely, if he ever can stay healthy, burst onto the scene at some point as a, a really promising bat.

We'll just see how Cole Mathis develops from here.

Sammy Stafura is probably the highest upside prospect the Mets got at the trade deadline, and that's including Jefferson Rojas, only because Stafura, I think, will stick at short.

He also did mention that when the Mets go about the offseason, they need to look in different avenues and not just rely on free agency, which...

I think we can agree, right? They didn't just get the Cole Mathis and this guy and that guy of the world, some of the expendable prospects just to hold them in the system.

They definitely did that to try to relay that into trades.

And also the free agent market's not great.

Because he has big power, and that's not going to go away.

Speaking of big power, Billy Amick was one of the acquisitions at the trade deadline, as was Cole Mathis.

well i guess my joke on there is billy amick is pretty much the right-handed ryan clifford uh but obviously clifford has struggled overall with his hit tool even when he's making contact billy amick's got over 30 home runs this year and there was a point where pretty much every hit he's had with the mets organization Was either a home run or a double.

Cole Mathis, we got him from the Cubs in the David Peterson trade, and he's all the way up into high A now at Brooklyn.

It was a very small sample.

Hasn't played too many games so far.

Again, talk about pipeline kind of sticking to a lot of their, their draft coverage a lot.

As a second round pick, they just seemingly give guys big bumps for that.

Yeah, which, uh, to me, Mathis is, like, more in that, like, late 20s to me.
