Cobra

Yeah.

If you turn this into your Cobra Command castle-

Let me just say I never, ever did that.

No.

Well, look, do you wanna g- give us one of your synopsis, Izz?

Right.

So, uh, G.I. Joe raid on Cobra, um, base or cell in Nebraska.

Uh, turn up one very juicy lead, and that's the name Brian Hassel.

So let's move on from Mask and kick into the other new comic book day, um, re- re- uh, releases from Wednesday.

And that is of course, a Real American Hero, Tomb Raider issue one, uh, which we got, um, w- interestingly we got that issue drop on the same day that issue 330's fourth printing came out with that lovely, um, Derek Chu cover, um, of, uh, Lara and the character Joe and the Cobra characters behind her.

If you want more detail on Tomb Raider covers, go check out my episode w- well, the, the Talking Joe episode that I appeared in very recently with the wonderful Mark Seddon, and, uh, we talked literally, you know, through every single cover that was out at that point.

And there have been like, uh, is it crazy to say there have been like five or six more since that episode last week? Nuts, that have been revealed, like in s- like, you know, retailer, um, exclusives and what have you.

I bet there aren't, they haven't got all of them in there.

Anyway, brilliant stuff.

Um, and of course we start in the Gulf of Mexico- We have the Devilfish and the Whale, um, basically, um, been dropped off by the Flag, so they're kind of zipping across the water to Cobra Island.

They're heading to the Arbco Star because, uh, Lara has seen this, um ...

Yeah.

We'll get into the beats of this issue, but, like, yeah, the, the underground battle, we don't really see the Cobras down there too well.

You could assume there's some, some eels maybe.

I think there was a Crimson Guardsman that, uh, Tunnel Rat tags.

Ooh

Do we end with Cobra Commander? We do.

Oh, I was gonna say, Stalker makes the decision to rush the Cobras' position, along with Dusty, Recoil, and Ambush.

Ambush and Recoil, we didn't even know they were there

Uh, goes back to his adopted family, 'cause he is, of course, a Fred series Crimson Guardsman and sort of a deep cover agent with this assigned family, and turns over a new leaf.

Decides they're gonna make a break from Cobra and go on the run.

Um, and yeah, v- v- very heartwarming.

The son actually turns to him and, and calls him Dad, which you can only imagine-

the drunk, drunk driver

...

there were no Joes there to see it, so I don't think they associate this with any one particular Cobra.

[sighs] I guess.

Dozito.

G.I. Joe Operation Cobra.

Yes.

Going to get some votes from the Nathan side of the table.

All right.

This is going to be a, I have a feeling this is going to cause some issues.

Uh, this is GI Joe operation Cobra versus Marvel zombies.

Ooh, I know

Shockwave, exploiting Megatron's depression, takes greater control of the Decepticons.

Bombshell-controlled Alpha launches, Mindbender then takes control from Bombshell for Cobra and clashes with the Joes.

Serpentor uses hostages, including GB Blackrock, on a cruise ship to allow his armies escape and forms an alliance with the Decepticons on Cobra Island.

Anthony's stupid mother finally takes him to the goddamn doctor.

Dr. Mindbender secretly learns via a bug of the Decepticons' world-destroying

Issue 3, Ashes, Ashes.

Shockwave's plan to turn Earth into a fireball to power Cybertron is revealed.

Cobra, now aware of the betrayal, seeks to ally with the Autobots.

The comic was written by Larry Hanna, who would write most of the bios for the characters' file cards included with each action figure.

Marvel comic editor Archie Goodwin created the villainous organization Cobra and Cobra Commander.

Lurie Hama still writes G.I. Joe comics to this day, and they are now published by Image Comics.

Huh, I didn't know that.

1983 would see the release of the first G.I. Joe animated miniseries entitled The Mass Device, which would serve as a pilot for the ongoing series.

There would be a 1984 sequel miniseries called The Revenge of Cobra, and the main G.I. Joe series would launch in 1985 with yet another five-part storyline, G.I. Joe and the Pyramid of Darkness.

Produced by Sunbow and Marvel Animation, the series would run for a total of 95 half-hour episodes.

That's if you count the miniseries.

It's, it's a lot of stuff like that.

The G.I. Joe stuff is fun because they're intertwining, like, some of the Cobra, like, Cobra, Cobra, a lot of people in space in Void Rivals, as well as Cobra Commander is still, like, leading the charge on Earth, trying to, like, also usurp Cobra law, 'cause he was, like, thrown out.

And so it's, like, a whole bunch of, like, different, like, wars going on, and all, like, the, and everybody's just intertwined.

And the G.I. Joe are just like, "Fuck." So it's a really, really, really good time, and I really wanted to highlight the Energon universe.
