Jenna ZinnHOST

We explore what it looks like to let the gospel set the standard, shaping our relationships beyond just our feelings and beliefs.
Aaron ZinnHOST
1:22
We share vulnerably from our own story and from years of coaching couples through the patterns that bring life and the ones that don't.
Aaron ZinnHOST
1:28
So you don't have to figure it out alone.

And in today's episode, I'm going to help begin to pull it out of you.

Hey, I'm Amanda, and welcome to the Best Damn Coach podcast, where I will teach you how to coach yourself, how to coach your clients, and how to run your coaching business.
Amanda WalkerHOST
0:41
The number one goal of this show, though, is to help you be the best damn coach you can be so your clients go out and tell the world about you.
Amanda WalkerHOST
0:49
So let's do the damn thing.

Welcome to the Best Damn Coach Podcast.
Amanda WalkerHOST

Another week, and I hope it's been a good one for you.
Amanda WalkerHOST
1:07
And as you're tuning in, maybe you're kicking off the week, maybe at the end of a great week, you're doing laundry, walking at the gym, sitting at your office.

One of the things I'm most curious about when it comes to coach training is what happens after you've completed the certificate and got the badge.
Sas PetherickHOST
0:15
What actually stays with you and how does that become part of the way you coach? What becomes possible when you take what you've learned and make it your own? So for this episode, I've pulled together some snippets from conversations I've had with SBCA graduates who trained with me, some of them over five years ago, and are all still working as independent self-employed coaches.
Sas PetherickHOST
0:41
What I love about revisiting these conversations is that There isn't one neat little, this is what happens as you become a self-belief coach.
Sas PetherickHOST
0:50
They've each taken this work into their own coaching practice, woven it into their medicine with their own clients in their own way.
Sas PetherickHOST
1:00
So this episode is really an invitation for anyone who is curious about training as a self-belief coach.
Sas PetherickHOST
1:07
This is an opportunity to hear directly from graduates about what this work has meant for them in their practice.
Sas PetherickHOST
1:14
And please know if you are curious about training as a self-belief coach, Get in touch.

Our Self-Belief Coaching Academy class begins on the 5th of October.

First, I wanted again to thank you, our listeners, for coming on this journey with us.
Alex SwallowHOST
1:22
Second, I wanted to say that if the principles from the show have resonated with you, I want to challenge you to think about what that means, both in terms of what it means for your coaching practice, but also more generally what it means for what you want to bring into existence in the world.
Alex SwallowHOST
1:39
I have learned so much from the guests we've had on the show, their passion, their humility, their resourcefulness and their humanity.
Alex SwallowHOST
1:47
What are your own favorite episodes and why do you think they are especially important to you? What does that teach you about yourself? How can you take what you have learned by listening to our podcast and use it to make a difference to your own life and the lives of those around you? As an avid listener before I became a host, I'm going to be reflecting on the same questions myself.
Robbie SwaleHOST
2:32
Robbie here, and the guest in this episode is the fantastic Chris Joseph.
Robbie SwaleHOST
2:36
Now, there are always many moments that you can choose to tell someone's story from, but there's a beautiful one in this episode that Chris describes when he was sat on the top of a Welsh mountain looking down at the school where his wife worked near his home in 2007 in a moment of depression and despair.
Robbie SwaleHOST
2:55
And he describes that as one of the first or one of many instances of clarity that would eventually lead him to coaching.
Robbie SwaleHOST
3:03
In that moment, he was on the brink of a meltdown He left his work and doing a PhD in computational mechanics that morning to come straight back home to the mountain, and he knew that it wasn't serving him anymore.
Sarah WilliamsonHOST

Teresa HarpHOST
1:43
So next week, let's see, as I'm recording this or as I'm coming live, it is Wednesday, September 9th.
Teresa HarpHOST
1:51
Next Tuesday, September 15th, is uh i'm going to be hosting a an online event a webinar workshop training whatever you want to call it right um but if basically a free event a free webinar that is about adhd and it is specifically designed for coaches those who are in the coaching world who work as a coach have a private practice of their own as a coach they own a small business and we're going to be talking about adhd executive functioning and running a coaching business with more ease okay less stress And before that event, I want to, I want to, I feel compelled to kind of back up a little bit and share why I'm doing this, like why this matters, what this is all about.
Teresa HarpHOST
2:58
Because typically, at least in the past, the events that I've held online and the content that I've created has been designed for SLPs.
Teresa HarpHOST
3:08
And that's not necessarily changing right now.
Teresa HarpHOST
3:12
in general, but I've never done a training like this designed specifically for coaches.
Teresa HarpHOST
3:19
And so I want to talk about why I'm doing this.
Teresa HarpHOST
3:23
And how I think how important the webinar next week will be for those of you who own a private practice of some sort or a small business, and you struggle with executive functioning, you have ADHD, or maybe you suspect that you do, okay? so i was diagnosed with adhd as an adult okay but before all of that before that happened before i knew anything about adhd and that i had it okay i was a speech pathologist with a private practice and a growing family And at that point, I had four kids under four.

10 MINS LATER

Teresa HarpHOST
14:40
Right.
Katie WeberHOST
2:33
And I realized many of my clients who were struggling with binge eating disorder also had ADHD.
Katie WeberHOST
2:39
Now, my own coaching techniques began to shift toward working specifically with challenges related to ADHD, like executive functioning and reframing shame and regulating our nervous systems and learning to unmask and operate within our capacity.
Katie WeberHOST
2:54
I wasn't formally trained as an ADHD coach, and I've always been very honest about that.
Katie WeberHOST
2:58
But as a certified coach who already was very proficient in motivational interviewing and offering accountability and goal setting strategies with my clients, I also knew that they were coming to me wanting to get stuff done.
Katie WeberHOST
4:54
Even with the growth in understanding around ADHD and the increase in diagnoses, I still think women are getting diagnosed with depression or anxiety without adequate understanding of the underlying causes.
Katie WeberHOST
5:06
And while the clinical understanding of neurodivergence has certainly expanded in the field over the years, there is still a long way to go when it comes to training future therapists.
Katie WeberHOST
5:15
Throughout my training, I was met with a lot of disdain for coaching.
Katie WeberHOST
5:18
I mean, I get it.

MandyHOST
11:25
哦,coaching这样子吗?那要做什么?[笑声]好难喔![笑声]

11:31
跟经验有关。
MandyHOST
11:32
对,好。
Sas PetherickHOST
0:05
Okay, slightly controversial question to open today.
Sas PetherickHOST
0:09
How do you know if you're a good coach? I think this is a really surprisingly difficult question to answer, especially when you're just starting out.
Sas PetherickHOST
0:20
I suspect there's quite a lot of hope involved.
Sas PetherickHOST
0:22
I know for me, I just hoped the questions I was asking were useful.
Sas PetherickHOST
0:26
I hoped the client was getting somewhere.
Sas PetherickHOST
0:29
I hoped the fact that they had some insight or told me that the session was helpful means that we're getting somewhere.
Sas PetherickHOST
0:37
But even when you've been coaching for years, it can still be difficult to assess your own work objectively.
Sas PetherickHOST
0:45
And I suspect when self-doubt is high, that makes it even harder, mostly because feedback doesn't always feel like useful information.
Jenna ZinnHOST
12:01
And then I remember making plans, like we were making plans for Aaron to like step back from his work and really pursue this.
Jenna ZinnHOST
12:08
Yeah, not the podcast, but like coaching.
Jenna ZinnHOST
12:09
No, I'm sorry.
Jenna ZinnHOST
12:10
Ministry, coaching, business.
Jenna ZinnHOST
12:11
I would say though, I think sometimes entrepreneurialness can get kind of wrapped up in some main character energy.
Jenna ZinnHOST
12:18
It's not all, none of this is like black or white or something like that.
