They were writers who also had day jobs because they were in the South and And that's where we get, you know, a lot of really great Southern writers that were put through everybody from, you know, Lewis Norton and, you know, to Jill McCorkle and all these like fantastic writers.

Yeah, Larry Brown, Clyde Edgerton, who kind of came out of nowhere a little bit because this press was like, we're not worried about.

you know, credentialing you in this way that New York Publishing was.

And so they were very inspired by that.

He was from Warrington, Raleigh area, and he ended up being a teacher, you know, a professor at Duke, but he wrote, I think the first one was A Southern Man, and he wrote Kate Vaden, which you might remember, Blue Calhoun, and absolutely a heartbreaking book that is really well written and also took place in Raleigh where I lived before we moved out here and so I could close my eyes and envision you know the car ride he was talking about um I like Gail Godwin um current Greg Isles is really good he writes kind of detective these stories but always anchored in the south um

Yeah, my first introduction was Clyde Edgerton.

Oh my gosh, I love Clyde Edgerton.

I was a student of Clyde Edgerton's back at UNC, and that was when I really first discovered Southern fiction and fell in love with it, and that introduced me to Lee Smith and then Fred Chappell, the poet.
