Clutch Cargo

They did that for 10 years.

Now that was based on something called Clutch Cargo.

All the comedy writers were like, you know, fascinated with Clutch Cargo.

So of course I learned it from them.

And then there was, I said, take two celebrities who are dating and take their photos and merge and then morph them.

Of course.

Another name they used, I've been told, before they became Australian Crawl, was Clutch Cargo.

Now, for people who don't know, Clutch Cargo was the most inept, hopeless children's cartoon in the early days of television you have ever seen with animation at a level that I could have managed.

Yeah, so it was probably a very good move not to use that name.

Probably so,

He sings a line of an old Temptation song, Your Love is Fading.

He hums the theme to a cartoon called Clutch Cargo, which is a deep cut, even in 1987.

And he says something about still seeing the X, which people misheard for decades.

He holds up an object, and I'm not going to describe it in detail on this podcast, and he makes a gesture through it.

Not exactly a household name outside of the building.

He calls them the greatest world newspaper nerds, which requires you to know what the call letters stand for.

He hums the theme to Clutch Cargo, a cartoon that had aired on WGN.

He hits the sports segment on the 9 o'clock news specifically, which means he knew the rundown well enough to know when to jump in.

... on Conan, but he was also, he was always him in that, when they would do the kinda Clutch Cargo celebrity guests was just like a photo with like the mouth cut out.
