Cloud County

[upbeat music] T-Bird fans, we welcome you to a brand-new edition of T-Bird Talk.

I'm Cloud County Community College Sports Information Director, Toby Nosker.

On this week's edition of T-Bird Talk, we'll have an opportunity to visit with two members of the Cloud County Community College volleyball team, freshman outside hitter Samira Bousri, and freshman defensive specialist Kelli Rodriguez.

Last weekend, the Cloud County Community College volleyball team swept Garden City Community College and Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference play, winning the road match by set scores of 25-12, 25-22, 25-10.

Freshman outside hitter Karina Kastelar led the way for the T-Birds with 11 kills on a career-best 500 attack percentage, to go with four digs and a career-high three blocks.

Bousri recorded nine kills on a 310 hitting percentage, 11 digs, one block, and one service ace.

Sophomore libero Brooke Lougheed had eight digs and one service ace.

Sophomore defensive specialist Addison Ogle finished with four digs, while freshman libero Addison Allen had two digs.

Now

if you travel out to Cloud County in northern Kansas when the summer sun bakes the prairie into cracked clay, you'll find miles of flat, empty earth where the sky feels far too big.

It's the kind of wide open country where a man can hear his own thoughts a little too clearly.

Now back in the late 1870s, homesteaders dug their homes right out of the dirt, sawed shanties and dug out holes carved into the creek banks.

He rarely spoke to neighbors, and whenever a stranger approached his homestead, Corbett would step out of the earthen doorway brandishing a pair of heavy revolvers and a Winchester rifle, warning them to back away or face the wrath of the Almighty.

Furthermore, he dug defensive trenches around his dugout, convinced that assassins were creeping through the cornfields at night to avenge John Wilkes Booth.

Now the locals in Cloud County pitied the eccentric veteran.

In January of 1887, hoping to help the aging soldier make a modest living, the Kansas House of Representatives in Topeka appointed Boston Corbett as their official assistant doorkeeper.

Thanks, love the show.
