know what i mean christmas is yeah this time of year is kind of crazy Both me and my husband, he is a teacher, but he's also director of music in Clonard Monastery.

So he's like really busy in Christmas as well.

That's what I mean,

What happened is an open question.

So in North Belfast, you have this monastery and church with the Passionist Order, Italian founded, and the Redemptor's Italian founded too, and the Redemptor in Clonard.

So I had been in our headquarters in Rome for seven years.

I read about this in the newspapers.

So John Brewer, another academic who's written a lot about this, called them mavericks, and they would've been the ones being quite radical, I suppose, in their outspoken advocacy for interchurch cooperation.

So you think of people like Father Gerry Reynolds in Clonard, or Ken Newell from Fitzroy Presbyterian, who worked together for many years, people like Harold Good, and so on and so forth.

So we had people like that, and also it's important to say as well, a lot of those grassroots workers were women, so like Catholic religious sisters who don't often get the credit of the male [laughs] clerics and, and Protestant laywomen as well, who were really providing a lot of support and sustenance at that local community level.

And then in addition to that, now we know about the sort of the clerical mediators who did the behind-the-scenes work.

So Alec Reid, obviously another priest in Clonard, is probably the best known for this in terms of helping to instigate the Hume-Adams talks that brought the IRA into the peace process really, in a sense, and people like Archbishop Robin Eames were doing something similar as well within loyalism.

So you've got that mediating role as well.
