Gary Lineker was something else.

The older members of our following will know Clive Allen, famously in England, just an unbelievable goal-poacher.

To get the really, really big money, you're a never-miss goal poacher, or you're creating more for your team from longer distances out than Mo tends to have done so far.

I'm not saying he can't get to that point, but the jury is still out.

Yeah, I don't think so.

Clive Allen I picture in that show, the one with the three.

Yeah, Clive Allen.

I'm quite fond of that kit because we came up in that kit, you know, against Cambridge last season.

So I see Allen in that kit.

And I thought, let's give it a go, see whether I like it or not.

So I went in myself and Tim Sherwood, we went in, and we started, there was Kevin Bond, there was Joe Jordan, Clive Allen had moved up from doing the under-21s, So most days you were going in and, you know, boys were saying, hey, can we do some shooting after and all that? And I was thinking, there's got to be more to coaching than just doing a bit of shooting and stuff like that.

I understand that part of it.

And I started to get a bit bored of it.

Um, I look at the center forwards that, that, and, and the strikers I've been blessed to have seen from Greaves, Gilzean to Chivers, Peters to just there's so many.

Lineker, Klinsmann, Clive Allen, um, Kane's son, Ferdinand, Sheringham, and sorry, Richarlison and, and Solanke are m- are levels below all those forwards that I've seen.

So for me, we need to, we, if, if we wanna get back to where Poch had us and, and challenging for trophies, we need to be far stronger up front than, than we have been for the last year or two.

Yep.

I think we've done it before with Clive Allen.

Uh, Clive Allen was, like, an absolutely prolific goalscorer.

Yeah.

He played for, he played for Chelsea, City, and Spurs.

Mind you, there have been some examples even after the introduction of nets.

Yeah.

But that was Clive Allen's advice to Redknapp.

"You can't play him center mid, Harry." And he was like, "No, I think I can."

Mm.

And, and they hump us 4-1.

I think Clive, Clive Allen, I think Clive got a hat trick that day.

Anyway, so then we go to West Brom midweek, and I'm thinking, "Right, well, we'll beat this lot.

This won't take much." Got beat again 2-1.

I was making myself laugh as you were talking, thinking back to...
