In this relaunch of my podcast and special series, I am talking about rumination or overthinking, which was the topic of my PhD many years ago and which I find I keep coming back to as a really important topic that can sometimes be under-recognized.

hi welcome along to psychology actually i am dr marianne trent a qualified clinical psychologist it's really lovely to have you here i was inspired to do this episode after seeing a reddit post and it really made me think about so many aspects of my own career my own journey and that of supporting qualified psychologists even advising people outside of psychology roles when they're considering what they're going to do for work what they should apply for whether they should go for interviews And I thought it might be useful to have a conversation about that here with you.
Marianne TrentHOST
1:17
So the post in a nutshell was that someone had found themselves in a band five NHS assistant psychologist role, been there for almost 18 months.
Marianne TrentHOST
1:28
And now they're sort of at that point where they're like, I think it's time to move on, but I'm not really seeing any other band five roles.

So is that a race that you're willing to run? The same with your peers.
Marianne TrentHOST
5:05
So if you're striving for the same profession, the same career, then of course it can make you feel like you are more comparable.
Marianne TrentHOST
5:13
i really do when i reflect on my own career i do think that i got for example onto clinical training at the point when i was ready for it but i definitely added to the stress and the pressure by you know making myself apply for it sooner than realistically i was going to be able to do well if by chance i'd been given a place to train as a clinical psychologist a year certainly two years earlier I would have floundered because I wasn't ready.
Marianne TrentHOST
5:45
So it's really worth thinking about your own career, your own experiences when it comes to that stress, when it comes to that pressure.
