Cliff Burton

His wife, Lisa Holt came out and took some great photos of us.

Brian Liu, who did murder in the front row, started the Megadeth fan club, took the very first Metallica promo picture with Dave Mustaine and, uh, Cliff Burton, that era of the band, a good friend of ours, came to the show.

We got the idea to start a company that he would head up to release the – Eugene action figure.

He had worked for the company Super 7 for 10 years and had recently been let go when the company got a corporate crunch.

But, uh, uh, on, on Metallica, there was something that came across my mind with this album, sort of slightly in relation to it.

So it, it, it's sort of long been said that Cliff Burton was a bass player who liked to play like a guitarist, tracks like "For Whom the Bell Tolls." Um, was it a similar vibe for you, uh, running through an old Marshall JMP guitar amp?

Yeah, I, I know that bass players have done that.

Um, but it was really cool when, uh, our engineer, Kurt Ballou, suggested we, we run it through a guitar amp.

It, it sounds great, man.

And I thought that was really cool about it too.

And Cliff Burton, sadly, tragically dies in 1986, shortly after the release of Master Puppets.

And he's become a mythical figure in Metallica history.

How different do you think Metallica ultimately becomes if Cliff lives?

That's such a difficult question to answer, man, because like I, you know, The base position of Metallica is the weirdest because, like, it's the only position where a guy left... voluntarily and a guy was taken from us.

It's, you know, Cliff Burton will always be the spiritual guide for Metallica.

I think what he helped to them create in those early records and the fact that he brought that classical influence as well as like the Southern, like ZZ Top, Leonard Skinner vibe, um, that just really kind of set Metallica apart because of what Cliff could do with that instrument.

And because he was such a virtuoso and, That really laid the foundation for what Metallica was and what was to come.

That was John Lennon's bass.

I mean, he modified it with that big E.B. Gibson humbucker, bass humbucker.

I have
