Clif Payne

Um, Juan was on my bus.

That's Cliff Payne's son.

He's somebody else you ought to talk to.

Um, then Juan was on my bus.

And people were starting their studios in garages and things like this.

And there were places like the Chessmate Coffee House, Chesmay Coffeehouse, I got to be good friends with the owner and he has had me as the house band and his advisor because he was an older man and I was a younger punk in tune to what the kids liked.

So he would pick my brain, right? And I taught him, you want to get big musicians playing your club, get the new up-and-coming musicians to open up for them so they could get the reputation of playing opposite the big musicians.

And he did that.

And I lived with George in the studio for five years with George Bootsy, with Sly Stone.

Everybody, we were all living there for five.

My house was only three miles away and George's kids were living in my attic.

So we were a whole peafong family.
