Clerks III

So sequel March 13, 2015, Smith confirmed that Mallrats 2 was being written and was slated to begin shooting summer 2016.

In April 2015, Smith announced that Mallrats 2 would be next film instead of Clerks 3 as originally intended and would begin film in 2015.

From April 2015 to July 2016, Smith made a series of announcements regarding the proposal sequel, some regarding casting and announcing delays in production.

During this time, the planned film became a planned 10 episode television miniseries.

And I'm like, oh, did...

Because before that, I had watched Clerks 3, which was not very good.

And I was like, man, did this guy... did this guy ever make good movies? And then I was like, you know what? I'll watch clerks.

I'll go back to the start.

Like the, the quick was the quick stop and the, and the video store that that those were real locations uh even up until i think like 10 years ago they were still i think the quick stop might still be open actually but the movie store is closed now in leonardo new jersey and this was all just like real people that like he knew in his neighborhood too i think there was a couple of actors like uh dante and randall but like other than that it was a lot of just like his friends and the crew and all that were folks he knew um And it really has that kind of vibe.

It just feels very comfy and very, it does feel very authentic and real.

And that was something I really had trouble with with Clerks 3, where it's like, why are these guys still working in a convenience store that doesn't even feel real? And I pointed out, I felt bad about it, but like, you know, Jay and Silent Bob, you know, Jason Buse, Kevin Smith, They've been living in California now for like decades.

They're not, you know, wealthy, but they're, you know, they got money and all that.

Speaking of PlayStation Live TV, I did watch Clerks II and Clerks III, and my gosh, what an experience, what a rabbit hole I have been down.

Um, gotta take a quick drink of some Liquid Death.

I had never seen Clerks III, and so I watched it on PlayStation Live.

I wanted to get a feel for it, and I really enjoyed it.

It called back to Clerks I, but it was also calling back to Clerks II, but I did not remember Clerks II.

I was like, "I saw Clerks II, but I don't remember it much." But Clerks III was, uh, fantastic.

At first I thought, "Wow, this game, this movie is so hokey and whatever." And I get it, the first movie was campy, but this is years later and it feels, like, more campy than I expect.

live comedy is what's saving our lives.

Because we haven't made a movie together since Clerks 3.

Then I made the 430 movie, which you had a tiny part in.

But now we're going to make...

Yeah.

Clerks 3 is underrated.

I've never seen Clerks 3.

I saw Clerks 2.

Red State is cringe and Clerks 3 is horse shit.

It has retroactively become like Amazing Atheist the movie.

But back then it was like, oh, this is different.

I don't think he does it as much as he used to.

I've seen people ask for, like, bring back Fat Man on Batman type stuff, and if he's seen Clerks III, uh, he should stick with podcasting.

He's really good at that.

That one just always stood out.

Found out that there was Mallrats and Clerks before that, checked them out, and just as he put stuff out, stuck with it.

Hmm.

That's interesting.

So you saw Chasing Amy before Clerks?

Yeah.

Wow.

There was just like all of these indie people.

little older, but it didn't seem like a lot by any means.

The hell was I watching? Oh, when I was watching Clerks 3 for our previous episode, there were characters in there, and granted, the first Clerks was like 30 years ago, but I'm like, holy shit, these people got old.

Mm-hmm.

you know, some of them look like it'd been 50 years instead of 30.
