Clay Stevenson

I hope this team gets off to a really good start, and by the time U.S. Thanksgiving rolls around, they're in a Central Division playoff spot, and Hellebuck's still sitting at home, and Stuart Skinner's doing an all right job.

We'll see Clay Stevenson here sooner rather than later.

Still want to see maybe a little bit more out of Vigo Bjork, but he had pretty good opportunities there to score against Boston as well.

So it's despite all the crap that went on in the soft season through two games, been pleasantly surprised with this Jets group, especially Kyle Connor, who's on pace for 124 goals.

Yeah, for those who haven't read my sidebar, that's up.

Clay Stevenson will be between the pipes for his first game, start with the Jets on Monday night, and then we'll have to wait until the morning or pregame for any other lineup changes.

But Stevenson spoke Saturday morning and is fired up.

It's actually where he made his NHL debut, Sean, in April of 2025.

Monday is now, of course, and we'll see what kind of approach the Penguins take to facing a Winnipeg team that won't, of course, have Connor Hellebuck, and won't, by the way, have Stuart Skinner either.

He's being given the day off in favor of Clay Stevenson, a 27-year-old who's got five whole games of NHL experience, so...

Yeah, I would keep taking some risks.

What's it all going to look like when it washes out through a bigger slate and a bigger sample size? I really don't know.

[laughs] Further, you know, a little bit of news out of Winnipeg, further, uh, cementing the fact that I don't think Connor Hellebuyck is gonna play there ever again.

They claimed Clay Stevenson, a goalie, off waivers from the Capitals, and he'll be backing up Skinner it seems like.

So he's getting season tickets just to watch from the box then, I guess, right? Wouldn't he need to be in Winnipeg to watch? Yeah.

I don't think he'd be welcome in the building.

Yeah.

What's it gonna be like to get the first look at Clay Stevenson in a game here?

Yeah.

Um, it's gonna be great.

The way that this crowd and this market is embracing him.

I'm sure we're going to see Clay Stevenson's first start tomorrow on the back-to-back versus Pittsburgh.

On some of the downsides.

So in the bigger picture conversation, as I see Mr. Miao says, did I hear bounce back? You're not going to hear that from me two games in based on what we've seen.

When you look at Detroit's situation, they've been trying to get a young center for Larkin, and most contending teams are like, why are we going to do that? It becomes a lateral move.

Are we going to help you out of your problem? We'll trade you what we can.

If you're Detroit, you might be able to, like we've discussed with Clay Stevenson, maybe changing the asking price on Hellebuck.

I think Edmondson makes a really interesting scenario open up for Detroit where I think they can go to a team and get a young center now and then change their outlook on what they need with Larkin, which puts, I think, the Jets in a tough spot in the Edmondson and the Keisha and Carolina carousel that's out there.

And he just seems like he's kind of locked in now, really just being an anchor in the net that we need back there, keeping pucks out, making those high danger saves and stuff like this and more saves above expected, which is great to see out of Stuart Skinner.

obviously there's uh it's always great to see Stu have a great game with the question marks surrounding the goaltending here going into the season it's now great to kind of put that behind us as we know Stu can carry us forward here in the future and hopefully uh you know we can see Clay Stevenson get into a game I'm sure he will get in against the Pittsburgh Penguins tomorrow as it will be on a back-to-back so hopefully he can lock in and have a great game for us tomorrow as well Let's dive into some key performers.

Might have dropped some spoilers for you guys already, but Kyle Conner had two power play goals and an assist in this one.

Some great goals at that.

His first point is coming, and hopefully it's going to be tomorrow against the Pittsburgh Penguins.

I believe it is.

uh a 7 p.m Eastern start let me just double check for you guys uh it is 7 30 p.m Eastern start so uh we got another game tomorrow back to back hopefully we will see Clay Stevenson in his first action as a Winnipeg Jets so it's gonna be a fun game hopefully we can uh remain undefeated uh in regulation so let's knock on wood on that one and hopefully we can see a great performance again by this Winnipeg Jets team because they're rolling to start the season and I don't think there's no slowing down so let me not So let me know what you guys think about the first couple of games.
