Growing up in the Clay Center and Riley communities in the nineteen-forties and fifties, they'll celebrate her life during Senior Saturday with a complimentary breakfast for those fifty-five and older, free will donation from eight to ten AM.

Sum's children will share stories about their mother and her work at nine AM.

The exhibit will also be open Sundays noon to three, Wednesdays ten to two, and Thursdays four until six through October.

Vientra Speedway Oktoberfest this weekend will feature racing Friday, Saturday, and Sunday nights.

Senior Saturday at the Arts Center in Marysville will debut A Woman's Place is in the World, a focus on Shirley Sump's work, who sewed, painted, and wrote, drawing inspiration from the places she lived and the cultures she encountered growing up in the Clay Center and Riley communities in the 1940s and 50s.

A senior Saturday breakfast will serve from 8 to 10 a.m. with free will donation for those 55 and older.

They'll present a brief program at 9 with some children sharing stories.

The program will be offered Tuesday, October 13th in Concordia and Belleville, as well as Clay Center.

Fall soup season kicks off in Marysville with the American Legion Baseball Fall Soup Day Thursday, serving 11 to 7.

Good Shepherd Lutheran School will host Soup Day Friday.

On Monday, September 28th, our high school junior varsity volleyball team played in a quad with Hanover, Clay Center, and Valley Heights at Valley Heights.

Unfortunately, the girls could not secure a victory.

Then, on September 29th, the 5th through 12th grades attended an assembly where they got to learn about Abraham Lincoln from Abraham Lincoln himself.

Clifton Clyde over Chase County 44 to 12.

Clay Center falls to Abilene 17 to 14 in overtime.

Rock Creek stops Tonganoxie 17 to 12.

Chapman thumps Concordia 52 to 8, and Diller-Odell takes care of Meridian 40 to nothing.

They are prone to sporadic eruptions, though, and have been seen at feeders.

When I was a very early birder, I remember riding around town looking for birds one day, and I still believe that I saw one of these at a feeder in Clay Center, Kansas.

But I was so new in my birding adventures that I had no clue what I was looking at.

By the time I found evening grosbeaks in my field guide, the experience had been so far removed that I wasn't convinced enough to report it.

And about 3:30, we decided to go to one more town, west on Highway 24 in that county, where there was also family history stuff.

And we stopped, I remember we stopped for gas at the, on, in that town of Clay Center, Kansas.

And then, um, previous to that, my cousin Steve had decided to go home to Wichita, so the rest of us were headed west on this two-lane highway.

There was no bad weather, nothing.
