Clarence Williams

He's the first to record Sidney Bechet.

And Lil Hardin Armstrong and another African-American, Clarence Williams, become sort of his assistant A&R people and advise him and are allowed to direct sessions themselves.

So just an amazing body of work.

And if he had died in 1926, he would have been a Hall of Famer right there.

We're gonna hear the next set, uh, of his performances, five different tunes.

The Gulf Coast Blues, uh, Clarence Williams' tune, well-known from its Bessie Smith recording, which he did around the same time, 1923, uh, for QRS.

He did this one in New York, and the next one as well, Low Down Papa.

And, uh, those are good examples of his playing.
