On this episode, I'm joined by Kay Petran.

Kay is a data and graphics reporter for Civic News Company's Data Visuals team.

And from Civic's website, I can tell you that Kay collaborates with local reporters to tell data-driven stories about education, voting rights, and health care.

Kay has been with this organization for nearly five years.

All right.

So you're with, as I said, Civic News Company.

We'll jump forward to your current situation.

For folks who don't know about Chalkbeat, Chalkbeat is a actually national news organization that covers education in eight different cities.

We are one newsroom of what is now Civic News Company, which also has Vote Beat and Health Beat, which cover the topics of voting, election administration, and health and public health.

Public education, Chalk Beat was formed in 2014 when basically two blogs, one in Colorado and one in New York, came together and created the news organization and grew it and filled it essentially with many, many really talented journalists, education journalists who were leaving newspapers, who were cutting their education desks.

And so Chalkbeat has really innovated in the space of topic.
