So he did a very smart thing.

He went to a website called City News.

Because he thought, if I could get a little press on this, maybe Avis would realize it is physically impossible to drive 18,000 miles at 107 miles per hour 24-7 for a week.

And bingo, Avis releases a statement to the website City News.

Following a thorough review, we confirmed that a data entry error, all act surprised, resulted in the customer being incorrectly charged for excess mileage.

We sincerely apologize to the customer for the frustration and delay in resolving this matter.

But Ottawa says difficult market conditions don't automatically release companies from legally binding commitments.

Here's where this situation becomes particularly serious.

When Cleveland Cliffs purchased Stelco in 2024 for approximately $3.4 billion Canadian, the company agreed to binding conditions under the Investment Canada Act.

Still, the timing raises an uncomfortable question.

How can the parent company be reporting improving financial results while hundreds of Canadian jobs are disappearing? Cleveland Cliffs insists that conditions for certain steel products remain difficult, regardless of the company's overall performance.

Now comes the biggest potential consequence.

Today, we're breaking down all 10 questions, what Albertans decided, and what this means for Canada's future.

Let's begin with question 10, the most politically significant question on the ballot.

Albertans were asked whether they wanted to remain in Canada or begin the constitutional process toward another referendum on separation.

Danielle Smith accepted the result and declared she would not hold another separation referendum while serving as premier.

For the separatist movement, this is a serious setback, but the political frustrations that helped fuel the movement haven't disappeared.

One candidate running for council is Mitesh Kumar, who said that while the banner has made him fear for his safety, he's still proud to live in Steinbach and run for council.

Eugene Waruch from the Chamber of Commerce said this, quote, "It is just revolting, and I think that we have to stand up immediately and say we are not allowing this to just fester, and we're not going to allow this kind of statement to stand without being addressed directly and publicly." Unquote.

That was tragic and, uh, I will never live it down.

Well, I can only speak to the polling that I've done.

And in July, which would've put it around that time, we also did a poll for City News, so these are independent, not sponsored by anybody in particular except a news outlet.

And at that time it was 50/50 support.

Should Canada consider taking control of Stelco to protect its steel industry? Here's what's happening and why this could become a major test for Prime Minister Mark Carney.

The Reuters and City News articles that are on the screen reports that on September 28th, Stelco announced it would indefinitely idle cold-rolled and coated steel operations at its Hamilton Works facility.

The decision could affect up to 500 workers across Stelco's Hamilton and Lake Erie operations.

According to United Steelworkers Local 1005, approximately 330 Hamilton workers are expected to be affected.

Prime Minister Mark Carney has also made clear that Canada intends to enforce the company's legal obligations.

However, no court has yet determined that Cleveland Cliffs violated those commitments.

Critics question whether holding the referendum will reduce divisions or deepen them.

On October 1st, Prime Minister Carney designated the proposed Pacific Link oil pipeline a project of national interest.

The planned pipeline would transport approximately 1 million additional barrels of Alberta oil per day to Canada's west coast, opening opportunities in Asian markets.

The big unknown is voter turnout.

Elections Alberta has reported more than 658,000 applications for mail-in ballots, although applications do not tell us which side voters support.
