Mayor Leah Parker told the Border Mail that her council would not have survived two years without a cut to a third of its services and a third of its staff under the proposed methodology.

And the City of Newcastle and Lake Macquarie City Council have issued a joint statement saying the proposal would have seen their councils lose nearly $200 million over the next decade.

They also acknowledge the efforts of Central Coast and Mid Coast councils for standing firm with them against the proposed changes, along with the Mayor of Musselbrook, Geoff Drayton.

In more news out of Lake Macquarie this week, the Council has welcomed news that the NSW Government has nominated Terralba as the preferred site for a $12 billion train manufacturing facility, forming a key component of the state's future fleet program.

Some sort of-- Or in Australia or somewhere that I was gonna go related to my trip to sort of almost that made the grant a stronger proposition, you know, to be awarded.

So I, I had in the past had an offer from Timeless Textiles in Newcastle, um, in New South Wales to exhibit, and they'd sent in about 2020, they sent me an invitation to exhibit, and I said no at the time 'cause my children were much younger, and I thought, "I just can't, I can't justify." You know, I really wanted to because I lived in Australia when I was younger, and I also lived in New Zealand, and I really, really wanted to go, but I just felt like it, uh, it wasn't the right time.

So I contacted Timeless Textiles again and said, "Do you remember we've been in touch before? Is there any way I could exhibit with you or have some sort of opportunity maybe run workshops with you?" And I explained about my grant, and then they wrote back to me straight away offering me the opportunity to exhibit and also have a two-day workshop.

So it was quite a lot of sort of juggling times, and really, they were brilliant actually because they were able to move things around on their end to make it fit with my sort of short timetable as well.

Yeah, so, uh, uh, uh, they, Arawati Gallery, they gave me a, um, canvas actually, and they said, "Can you send it back in November?" So I need to do that because I've been developing some pieces based on some of their shop fronts.

But they're very square, and the canvas is square, so I might create something that's, as a sort of starting point.

But I also, I went over to Australia as well, and I taught for two days at a place called Timeless Textiles in Newcastle.

I used to be part of low market Newcastle CBD and then Heath Williams, my boss, he facilitated the need for asset finance, which is why we ended up separating the business.

And now we run low market launch separately.

At the moment, we've got two staff members in our team.

The council has not said publicly whether it intends to take any action to try and stop the protest from going ahead and did not respond to the Herald's request for comment.

Councillor Declan Clawson has officially commenced his eighth term as Deputy Lord Mayor of Newcastle, making him the longest-serving deputy in the city's history.

His appointment comes as part of a four-year leadership sharing arrangement, succeeding former deputy Charlotte McCabe in the position.

Councillors at the City of Newcastle have voted against flying the Tibetan flag above City Hall for Tibetan National Uprising Day, citing concerns over potential political tension and setting a precedent for other nation state flags.

Greens councillors proposed raising the flag on the tenth of March alongside developing a new flag-raising policy.
