City of Bones

Uh, no, I don't think it is.

Oh, wait, no. Um, number one on this list being City of Bones.

Yeah, I'm interested that that's considered over-hyped.

I think it's just 'cause, like, the-

But also I think, like, I also think the other thing here is, like, I think this maybe falls into a bit of, like, nostalgia for me, is, like, I read City of Bones as it was coming out, and it was so cool and interesting-

I think I-

... and it's like, I'm just kind of like, I think if I went back to it, it probably wouldn't hold up, but I'm like, yeah, it, I enjoyed it-

It's huge.

According to the source, Cassandra Clare debuted The Shadowhunter Chronicles back in two thousand seven with City of Bones.

Two thousand seven? Just think about that for a second.

I know.

I always look at that kind of multimedia expansion like urban sprawl.

You have this sprawling ancient city.

The original readers from 2007, the ones who picked up City of Bones when it was just a standalone book, they built the downtown core.

Right.

That was Obsidian by Jennifer L. Armentrout.

And then, of course, one of the probably most obvious recommendations is City of Bones by Cassandra Clare.

And this is the start of a long series as well.

When 15 year old Clary Frey heads out to the Pandemonium Club in New York City, she hardly expects to witness a murder, much less a murder committed by three teenagers covered with strange tattoos.

Within 24 hours, Clary is pulled into Jace's world with a vengeance when her mother disappears and Clary herself is attacked by a demon.

But why would demons be interested in ordinary mundanes like Clary and her mother? And how did Clary suddenly get the sight? The shadow hunters would like to know.

Okay, that was City of Bones by Cassandra Clare.

And that is another super nostalgic series.

Especially with that club scene.

I was like, "This is so City of Bones."

Yeah.

Yes.
