City As School

But I grew up in, uh, Brooklyn, New York, and was in a program that was just launched.

I was the inaugural class that happened to be the spring semester of my senior year of high school called City as School, which was a classroom without walls idea, and I mean, this was in the '70s in New York, so there were subway tokens, and you basically got a bag of subway tokens on Monday morning, and then had different experiential learning, um, things around New York City.

And one of the things I chose was working at Green Point Hospital, which, uh, no longer exists.

I discovered that medicine would be even better because it combined science with working with people, and I really loved the combination of patients and medicine and science.
