There's actually a whole body of more recent research that backs this up using measurements like calf circumference in older adults as a screening tool for sarcopenia.

And in those studies, researchers openly acknowledge the same limitation.

Circumference is a cheap, quick proxy, not a precise measurement, and it works best as a population screening tool, as a general population screening tool.

You know, it can maybe flag who we might need to take a closer look at, but it's certainly not a verdict on any one individual.

So think about who that original Danish study was mostly capturing at the low end of the range.

And up front, let's explain what it is.

Well, it's 3.14, right? But what that is, is it's the ratio of a circle's circumference to its diameter.

Mr. O'Keefe, what's circumference? What's diameter? Circumference is the total distance around a circle, and the diameter is the distance straight across the center of a circle.

So no matter the size of a circle, when you divide the total distance around the circle by the total distance straight across the circle, you're always going to get this unchanging number, which is approximately 3.14159. You get it.

And for my younger members of the audience, when you say the ratio, you say divide it.
