Circle in the Square Theatre

That's how I felt, too, Hadar.

It was, it was a very strange sensation for me because when I, when I entered Circle in the Square, I was very certain of who I was, as is the character of Ellie.

I was very, very certain of who I was, where I was gonna go, what was gonna happen in my life, who were gonna be in my life, who I would end up with.

That was defined.

And then there are, um, a couple of people at that, at that school, in that environment that made me be like, "I had no idea that that's who I am," and that was you.

[laughs]

I have to tell you, like when I think about my first days at Circle in the Square, which is the school that we went to, and I remember us sitting in the lobby.

I vividly remember seeing you and one more person, Ryan Kaye, right? Like walking around-

We better start packing.

And, She was at that point development director for Circle in the Square.

And so.

We're packing the boxes and loading them in the hall.

That's beautiful.

And then, so you go off, you go to college, and then you end up, you study, you study acting at Circle in the Square, right? At theater.

How did you, yeah, get to that?

Yeah, so I mean, I guess this was sort of like the first seed of an ongoing relationship with Phil and that journey.

Yeah, I mean, and I think that's, you know, I think that's, that was probably like an early indicator that, you know, like, this is what this career is going to be.

So like, just brace yourself for as much, as much of this, hearing no as much as possible.

I always have been so endlessly inspired by artists, who take agency over their own work and then how you give opportunities to others through Animus Theatre Company, which, from what I understand, you started with some colleagues of yours from Circle in the Square.

Can you talk about that? In 2011, you recently did that amazing Tracy Letts epic marathon reading.

Not really that close, but I appreciate it.

Theatre stage success continued for Mary during the 90s as well, appearing in The Shadow Box in 1994 at the Circle in the Square Theatre, where she reunited with Fence's co-star Frankie Faison, while in 1995 she appeared in Having Our Say at the Booth Theatre, for which she won Drama Desk Award and Tony Award nominations, before appearing here on Oz.

Born November 26th, 1970, Delilah Cotto was born and raised in the Coney Island section of Brooklyn, New York, studying drama at the High School of Performing Arts, as well as training at the William Esper Studio on West 37th Street in Manhattan, where she studied dance.

Making her screen debut in 1989 in the film Lean on Me in a Minor Role, Delilah continued to study before appearing in Law & Order in 1995, appearing in the show's sixth season.

I went and saw it.

It was also in Circle in the Square.

So I'm so excited that I get to be there.

I saw my favorite musical, so.

We would all do that together.

And it was just, again, because for the next hour and a half, we were all going to be scattered around the building, backstage, onstage, in the cement box of the Broadway basement that is the Circle in the Square Theater.

So we all gathered in our music director's dressing room and we would all sing it together and feel and hear each other sonically first.

as a company before we would go out.

And, you know, one of the plays that I know that she had talked about doing, and I don't know where she is in this, haven't spoken to her about it in a while, was the play Down in the Delta, which, of course, in Dasha Holland.

And I saw the play at the Circle and Square Theater in New York off Broadway.

Amazing.
