Cigarettes and Valentines

Now before American Idiot, Green Bay was working on another album.

It was called Cigarettes and Valentines.

And this one was one of the most fascinating stories in the band's history.

The group had recorded a substantial amount of material, but the project never reached stores.

Exactly.

But like, as a result of this, this like, you know, sort of perceived failure, the band took a break for a bit and then stopped planning out their next album, Cigarettes and Valentines.

And then the masters for that were stolen.

And so they had the choice of either trying to recreate it or just giving up and starting from scratch.

Armstrong said that they couldn't honestly look at themselves and say, that was the best thing we've ever done.

And so we decided to move on and do something completely new.

The writing of Cigarettes and Valentines was quite experimental.

There are a lot of just fucking around, basically.
