The media absolutely love to vilify and demonize more so than a male suspect, a female suspect, which you and I have chatted about in the past, Shaham as well, because it goes against so many of the stereotypes, doesn't it? You know, women should be maternal, caring, trustworthy, which is the sort of subconscious idealist idea of who women are so whenever there's a contrary or contradicting version of that then the media pounce on it and love to create these frankenwomen and this was a case of that so after deliberating for approximately a week the jury found Patterson guilty Three counts of murder, one of attempted murder.

On the 8th of September 2025, Justice Christopher Beale sentenced Patterson to life imprisonment with a 33-year non-parole period, which means she wouldn't qualify her for any chance of parole for 33 years.

She also received a 25-year sentence for the attempted murder, served concurrently.

So it gets interesting, you know, the judge described the offending as, involving an enormous betrayal of trust and placed it in the worst category of murder and attempted murder, which I have to say surprises me.

Mm-hmm.

A large television audience was also watching, with Justice Beale's sentencing remarks being live on Australian networks and international news channels.

What followed those charges was a trial that lasted more than nine weeks and involved more than 50 witnesses and 120 exhibits.

She was also found guilty of attempting to murder Ian Wilkinson.

The verdict brought one of Australia's most closely watched criminal trials to an end, although Patterson continued to maintain her innocence and subsequently appealed her conviction.

On Monday, Supreme Court Judge Christopher Beale described Patterson's crime as an enormous betrayal of in-laws Don and Gail Patterson, as well as Gail's sister Heather Wilkinson and her husband Ian.

Mr Wilkinson was the only guest to survive and spent weeks recovering in hospital.
