Uh, there's an argument by Christopher Leslie Brown, an African American historian, uh, who fairly persuasively argues that one of the reasons that the anti-slavery campaign in Britain gained momentum in the 1780s in particular, is that many evangelical Christian Britons felt that the loss of the American colonies was some kind of divine judgment, um, uh, and that that divine judgment probably had more to do with slavery than with anything else.
