In this episode, we'll hear from Marcus Ludley, author of Field Recording: A Practical Guide, which was published in 2026 by the Crowwood Press.

[upbeat music] Marcus is a field recordist, sound artist, and academic.

He teaches field recording and experimental sound at Goldsmiths, University of London, where he's head of the electronic music studios, and privately he teaches adult learners through online classes and in-person field trips.

Marcus has an MMus in studio-based composition, a PhD in sonic art, and over 40 years of practical field recording experience.

And in these realms, there, there are just, just some fascinating, fascinating sounds that tickle the ears and make you wonder what on earth it is you're hearing.

That really surely is the case.

And, uh, hidden sounds is something I'm, I'm particularly interested in for my own artistic practice.

And I think the, the range of microphones and detectors we have now that we can apply in the field really, have really opened up that hidden realm of sound.
