Christian Church (Disciples of Christ)

It's a very similar concept there.

And you look back, it's like what was going on in the 1800s that led to the formation of these movements? So you had like Mormonism came first, then you've got Seventh-day Adventism, Job's Witnesses, and then even like the whole Restoration movement, which eventually resulted in Christian Church, Church of Christ, and Disciples of Christ movement, where all of them similarity they had is churches at that time were hopelessly corrupt.

They aren't following what the Bible teaches.

We need to get back to what the Bible actually teaches.

So we're going to restore the original teaching that's been missing for all this time to what it should be today.

And so then you have the more orthodox movements, which the churches of Christ, the Christian church, disciples of Christ, and even SDA, who we wouldn't depending on how far they push things, not cult, but then you have the Jehovah's Witnesses and Mormons who twist core doctrines of scripture.

But they all came from the same mindset, a leader who convinced a bunch of people churches at that time were hopelessly corrupt.

They need to be restored, and I'm God's chosen instrument to do this restoration, and here are the things that need to change.

Baptists call themselves Christians.

Disciples of Christ call themselves Christians.

Church of Christ call themselves Christians.

Jehovah's Witnesses call themselves Christians.

That can come across as offensive and rude.

How dare you tell me that I'm not a Christian? But I want you to understand something.

Somebody has to tell you because if you believe simply by being Catholic or Presbyterian or Methodist or Episcopalian or Disciples of Christ or Church of Christ or Baptist or whatever you are, Jehovah's Witness, Mormon, whatever you are, that you're a Christian because you go to that church.

and you practice faithfully what they tell you to do, you're going to be really upset with me when you wind up in hell without Christ.

I think a Christian pastor at a Christian church.

Disciples of Christ, maybe.

And he and his wife, Tanya, were talking, and then he and the Their friend's wife, they were kind of in a conversation, and she dared Wendell to write a short story about a sexy pastor's wife.

And he leaned over and he said, and I wasn't sure if she meant a sexy pastor's wife or a sexy pastor's wife.

This is Hiram, Ohio.

He joined the Disciples of Christ, the Campbellites, in 28.

And in 29, he's appointed the overseer.

He's the kind of head of the congregation, the believers down there.

We did it every week.

I was a d- uh, Disciples of Christ.

We did it every week.

But I think that's rare.

And, I mean, that's what birthed not just the Cumberland Presbyterian Church, but it also birthed the Church of God of Anderson in Indiana.

It birthed the Church of Christ, ironically, the Disciples of Christ denomination.

And from the Cumberland River, they all went out in different directions and spread.

Just go back and listen to our denominations episode because we talk about that.

Church of Christ, this was a little bit later establishment, 1801, started with a revival, Cane Ridge Revival in Kentucky.

And then you see that group of Christians unite with Alexander Campbell's Disciples of Christ.

So they came together.

What's interesting about Churches of Christ is they tend to make the claim that they are modeling themselves after the early church.
