There was...

there was actually an essay that Chris Wojcik wrote where he was talking about when he was younger and by the way when I'm comparing myself to Chris he's competing at a completely different level but I really identified with a part of his essay where he was talking about how selfish you almost have to be when you're a competitor and when you're an athlete to the point where sometimes you can think, who actually am I without this sport? And the period where I was competing a lot, I was in my early twenties.

And I think it's safe to say for a while, jujitsu was the first thing that I would do at 7am every morning.

Um, And then I would do whatever crappy part-time job I had to do so that I could do more jujitsu from five o'clock till nine or 10 at night.

And yeah, I went on a bit of a rant there, but it's a delicate, delicate tightrope to walk.

Couldn't agree more.

And you brought up my other favorite jujitsu writer, Chris Wojcik.

And obviously, like you said, he comes from a very different lens.

Both did it.

And then there were a handful of 88s like Chris Wojcik, Marlon Tajic.

They slid in as well.

I kind of had a hope that Matthias might do it.

What I would have done is, as an owner, if, like a lot of people looked at me, like you said, like we said as a social media guy, if you're picking athletes, are you not going back and doing research on their career? Because, I mean, if you look back, I've, again, I've competed with a lot of the best guys in the world.

I mean, if you go back and look at even my brown belts, the, the brown belt podiu- podium I was on for No Gi Pants, it's uh, it's me and Chris Wojcik in third.

Second, I'm pretty sure was Igor Feliz, and first is Mica Galvão.

Yeah.

I think it's just one of those things.

Don't get me wrong, I respect both grapplers, and they've done a lot of great things, and I had a quick message exchange with Chris Wojcik, and he's like, "I am getting fucking destroyed by Conan Duarte.

Fuck." [laughs]

And Chris Wojcik is a tough motherfucker.

The invitees, Santeri Lilias, Mateus Diniz, 2019 ADCC champion, Gabriel Brod, Chris Wojcik, 2024 bronze medalist, Filipe Costa, Fares Ben Lankadam, Lucas Canard, and Mateus Mazur.

As we said, he is the last-minute replacement for Pedro Mourinho.

So, I would say that this division is... not as wide open as, say, the 66 or 77.

You know, I knew it was like, I knew I was being irrational, but I think I was driving home from doing an in-person interview.

I think I had gone to this person's remember who it was i'm not sure but anyway i had interviewed somebody and you know i felt like it it went really well and i had something good you know it might have been with chris wojcik and you know he was like when he agreed to come on i was like you know I didn't say this, I didn't act like this, but when he first said yes, I was like, seriously? You know, like he's a big, big name for me to have on.

So I don't think we did it in person, but I, whatever, I was doing it somewhere other than here.

Like this is where I live, but I wasn't doing it here.
