We're not trying to bribe anyone, but as a... as an acknowledgement that actually there are difficult things that need to be done if we wanna have a modern economy and a modern energy system that goes with it.

But the broader story of public acceptance is actually a pretty positive one, even, even today.

The second time in five years.

People, I think interestingly this time round, really connect the solutions of renewables with the answer to how you get bills down, how you protect yourself from those, those kind of moments in the future.

Mm.

You know, when you come to hang up your spurs in this position, w-what for you will constitute, you know, a, a job well done?

So I'm not ready yet to hang up my spurs, but I might, you know, there might be a...

Maybe I'll take one boot off.

Um, because if you think about the challenge for 2030, we, we went hard at the, the, the first challenge really is to go hard at trying to change the pace at which we were deploying renewables and also the grid that supported that, and, and some of the big energy storage projects.

And if you don't do that in your first two years, it cannot feature in the 2030 power system because of the time it takes to develop a project like that.

Um, so here we are talking roughly the two-year mark, and, uh, sort of phase one is not done, but w- it's gonna be limited influence that we can have sort of daily dwindles on that story as we go into the, the la- latter half of this year when it comes to 2030.

Um, and that is all by design, right? We had, we, we had, we knew we would use that two years for that purpose, and I don't feel we wasted a single day on it.

[laughs] So what else is on that list of priorities? What's up top as we sit here today?

And so how do you as sort of, you know, clean power commissioner look over those things and decide where to prioritize your time? Like, what does that look like day to day for you?

So I have a particular outlook on this.

Um, and if you look back at what we've done over the two years, you can probably see the blueprint of that or the DNA of that.

Um, very much driven by my experience at the CCC, I think it's important that you have a very strong sense of what it is that you're pushing towards.

Now, for us, that's the way in which we've defined the clean power target.

Um, but having a target is something that governments do all the time.

And so we have lots of experience in government over the ages of government setting targets.
