Obviously, over the last 72 hours, we've seen what happened in Dover, we've seen what happened in Portsmouth, and the argument seems to centre on, on the one hand, you've got Andy Burnham posting videos about... bus fares and and and vape shops and you know all these sorts of things and yes these are important issues but to me they're on the periphery of what is galvanizing and and dominating every news agenda the front of the express this morning don't ignore public and anger over illegal migrants let's talk about portsmouth i watched the coverage from the mainstream media i watched the footage that that everybody else has got and i've tried really hard this morning to give all sides There is no doubt that the British public are at the end of their tether from politicians who say things and don't do it.

You've got a situation where 90% of those people in Portsmouth were peaceful protesters who are up to their back teeth with what they see as unfairness.

It's also been suggested, and I stand by this, that a majority, a number of the people wearing masks, Chris Philp, are frustrated, hard-working men who fear that if they show their faces, there'll be retribution.

There is also proof that some that wore masks are the usual agitators and activists.

Now, the government would point to there has been a decrease year on year, but it is worth saying that last year the numbers were up quite a bit anyway, so it's effectively a no-score draw.

but what of the latest tensions and what needs to be done? Let's bring into the conversation Chris Philp, who's Conservative MP and Shadow Home Secretary, who writes a piece in one of the newspapers today, The Sun, saying it's time to get a grip.

Mr Philp, you don't write the headline of that piece, I appreciate that, but hopefully it sums up broadly what your article in The Sun is all about.

In what way is that grip to be attained? Good morning to you.

The government must get a grip and end this illegal immigration scandal.

Do you understand it, as the government is saying, what's their thuggish behaviour, as you understand what went on in Dover at the weekend? Good morning to you.

Well, I'm sure it has an impact, actually, with all the arrivals.

So what does government action, central government action, look like?

Conservative policies, I understand it, and I'm fully foursquare behind Kemi and Chris Philp on this, is that we need to remove the incentive for people.

And the Daily Mail leads with a quote from Shadow Home Secretary Chris Philip that labor has chickened out over immigration reforms.

Its front page also carries the mystery of J.K. Rowling and the magically vanishing super yacht's name, asking why the author is hiding the name of a yacht.

Right, so those are some of the headlines in the leading newspapers within the UK.

That was one of the outcomes of the conversations between Andy Burnham and President Macron.

But I do just want to press pause before we all get the party poppers out and start celebrating this, because Chris Philp, he went over to some of the shores and was talking to some of these police officers.

So if you're listening on the radio, you might have missed that.

At the moment, including those 45, the plan is for it to be about 1,000 officers in total.

So it's not just going to be 45 cops across the whole of the north of France, about 1,000 officers.

And if it's 45 officers targeted in certain places where this is a real problem, it's happening repeatedly, in the spot, for instance, that we just saw there a moment ago in that clip with Chris Philp, then it might be a very smart allocation of resources.

It really might be.
