I think.

I saw another interview that was done on Star Trek Day with Akiva Goldsman, and he talked about meeting with Chris Parnell.

And he did say generously, first of all, and I've been seeing this, I'm sure you've seen this headline as well this week, well, it doesn't look like we're going to get Star Trek Year One.

And it's like, yeah, I'm sorry, you just got the memo.

Will Parnell?

Oh, Chris Parnell.

Yeah.

I love that guy.

That's something that everybody talks about from 31 to 32, is that NBC had to slash the budget, and that's the reason why they let go of three additional cast members.

So we lose Finesse Mitchell, Chris Parnell, who has been let go for the second time after, uh, just- Being let go really unceremoniously earlier in his career, and then Will Ferrell and others had to fight for him to come back.

And then Horatio Sanz, who had been at the show since Season 24.

So, uh, three big departures from cast members that we saw the year before.

I think that Darrell had been there for so long, and they just trusted his ability to do impressions like Dick Cheney and others that are gonna come up, that he sort of became, as he referred to it, kind of a place kicker for the show, where he had a specific defined role.

He wouldn't necessarily be part of regular sketches and be there to just do impressions when needed.

But, you know, had they been able to make an adjustment and pick somebody versus another, I think the versatility of Chris Parnell at that time would've felt better to me than Darrell.

Uh, but Horatio certainly, I felt like that was, uh, it was about time, uh, and, and maybe a couple years [laughs] for, for a couple years it was about time.

Like, you think we're gonna get them?" And we are here where we're going to talk about a Will Forte classic, Spelling Bee here at number nine, featuring our host Jack Black from the greatest episode according to you guys, uh, in SNL history, where this is going to be our end of the night.

Chris Parnell is hosting a spelling bee, and he is going to have two final contestants, Rachel Dratch, who's gonna be asked to spell the word xylophone, before Will Forte, as Daniel Strong, is going to come up and be asked to give the spelling of the word business.

And we get sort of two parts to this.

One is him asking a lot of questions of, "Could you repeat this? Could I have the origin, the definition?" and all that, and then the very elongated spelling of business where we get probably about 30 to 40 letters in a row, including a lot of Q's, uh, before we find out that he does not know how to spell business.

It's so simple.

It's such a simple premise of, of, uh, somebody just rattling off a bizarre, uh, hodgepodge of letters for a minute and 10 seconds.

Uh, I, I wanna give a shout-out to Chris Parnell because he takes it very seriously, and I think as, uh, contrary to the sketch we just talked about, I think the fact that both him and Forte just are dead, uh, deadpan and, and very serious about the whole thing, I think really makes the sketch.

And so, uh, the second highlight after all the Q's, I think, is when Parnell just waits for the, uh, laughter and the applause to die down, and he just says, "Wrong."

Originally, the script for Hot Rod, written by Pam Brady, was to be intended for Will Ferrell while he was at SNL.

That version of the movie never happened, and the project was suspended in limbo at Paramount Pictures for some years.

He survives, and the event raises more than the $50,000 needed for Frank's operation.

Six months later, a recovered Frank once again spars with Rod, but this time Rod finally defeats him, earning the respect he's wanted all his life.

How do you guys feel about Chris Car- Parnell?

Can we say something about some of the voice cast? There have been some choices in this series.

Chris Parnell as Deathstroke has still been one of the most interesting choices that they have made this whole time.

I do want to talk about Hank Henshaw, again, the cyborg Superman played by Max Middleman, and the, again, superior villain in the season's two parts.

I think this is the only nuanced villain throughout the whole thing, and maybe that's too harsh on me, but a war hero who comes back from the dead and is like, it is me, people of Metropolis.

Well, I wish Jay very subdued.
