Chris Hedges

I'll show you a couple of pictures, and then I will read from the appendix.

The genesis for this book dates to the spring of 2001 when the journalist Chris Hedges and I prepared to go on assignment to the Gaza Strip for Harper's Magazine.

He as a writer with me as illustrator.

We had decided to focus on how Palestinians in one town, Han Yunis, were coping during the early months of the Second Intifada against the Israeli occupation.

I recalled a reference I'd read many years before in Noam Chomsky's book, The Faithful Triangle, basically a short quote from a United Nations document about a large-scale killing of civilians in Han Yunis in 1956, and Chris agreed that we should add this barely noted historical episode to our story if it turned out to have some validity and current resonance.

Once in Kan Yunis, we devoted about a day to gathering eyewitness testimony to what had happened in the town in November 1956 during the Suez Canal Crisis, when Israeli forces briefly occupied the Egyptian-ruled Gaza Strip.

We, y- you know, as Chris Hedges said after 2016, we have to go into the wilderness.

We have to take out what...

We have to try to throw, overthrow this thing.

And some people would call that an accelerist, accelerationist, that you have to bring the pain harder so we have change, and people really look down their nose at that, right? Uh, but that was what Chris Hedges was certainly, to my m- now, my m- memory, was advocating in 2016.

Um, and so that's the crumbs that, that keep you, "We're gonna give you a rent freeze." And that's not not nothing.

That's something.

You know, a lot of people use the language of, and that was super, super helpful.

Along those lines, people use phrases like, and I say people, I, you know, I did an event last year with Gabor Mate, Chris Hedges.

It was an incredible event.

We raised, you know, a lot of money for Middle East Children's Alliance.

What did you expect would be the outcome when you play by their made-up rules? The deterioration of every government begins with the decay of the principles on which it was founded.

Many of us have already heard Chris Hedges' quote, which states, We now live in a nation where doctors destroy health, lawyers destroy justice, universities destroy knowledge, governments destroy freedom, the press destroys information, religion destroys morals, and our banks destroy the economy.

Well, how could it be otherwise when men despise the Word of God? Whoso despiseth the word of God shall be destroyed, but he, as a positive, that feareth the commandment shall be rewarded.

So, naturally, despising the Lord's will be an inverted outcome.
