uh the desert in california uh but caius breaks up in 1995 and josh homey moves from that area up to seattle um something i did not know but that becomes important a little bit later because they reverse roles but uh he actually joins the screaming trees as a touring guitarist for a while in the mid 90s uh as he's doing that he forms a band called gamma ray which released an ep in 1996 uh that had a uh couple of singles and featured uh van connor of the screaming trees as a member on that uh however gamma ray had already been taken by a german power metal band which always made me laugh one of my favorite genres power metal and gamma ray threatened to sue them when they found out there was another gamma ray so they instead go to queens of the stone age and that name comes from a nickname that was given to the band caius by producer chris goss and josh homie's take on it is the following and this made me laugh kings would be too macho the kings of the stone age wear armor and have axes and wrestle The queens of the Stone Age hang out with the kings of the Stone Age as girlfriends when they wrestle.

born a hula and if only everything and if only becomes a song on their self-titled debut for queens of the stone age but this was originally under the gamma ray name he renames the band queens of the stone age which was the nickname that kaius producer chris goss had given the band when he was recording kaius he called them the queens of the stone age and so that's where the band name comes from
