I'm 50 feet

off of the road in this tall grass, which was at least probably up past my knees and close to my waist.

And I just remember sitting down and it wasn't very long before the sun went completely down and I could hear traffic in the distance, but nobody was coming down that little road.

Nobody there.

You could sense there was a highway probably I don't know, a quarter of a mile at best away from where I was.

And I could hear traffic every once in a while, trucks going by.

But nobody turned onto that road.

yeah, I don't know about that.

After weighing the decision carefully, Chris agreed to see the man, the subject of his nightmares, in person.

I went with my very first youth pastor from when I was just an 11, 12-year-old, and Danny went with me to this North Miami nursing home.

And of course, from the car to that room was just nerve-wracking.

You know, what's he gonna look like? Is he still bigger than me? Is this gonna be intimidating? Will it bring back a flood of emotions and fears and memories? And I walked into that room, and all I could see was a 77-year-old man who looked decades older.

He weighed about 60 pounds.

He was blind from glaucoma.

He was all alone in a three-bedroom.

But Chris' friend Danny was not gonna let David off that easy.

As the next half hour passed, Chris considered his options.

I remember sitting in the back, and e- even as a 10-year-old boy, looking at my environment, looking at the situation I was in, and thinking, "How do I escape? How do I get out? Who can rescue me? What are my options here? Can I overpower him?" [laughs] I, I'm a 10-year-old boy who's undersized, still waiting on my latest growth spurt that's passed me by, so no, I can't overpower him.

He's a full adult.

Can I outsmart him? You know, can I pull some kind of MacGyver tactic? No.

I looked around, and there wasn't anything within reach that I could grab to hit him with.

You know, but even if I did, are we gonna go off the road and into a canal? The odds of me surviving any one of those options was not good.

There was a realization that even though I'd been raised in church, and even though I knew the stories of the Bible and knew who Jesus was, that was a moment in which I had to shift from saying, "I trust what my parents believe, and I rely on their faith," to realizing I need to step up and do something myself.

In reality, the man had driven him out to the northern part of the Florida Everglades.
