So I wanted to know a little bit more about sort of the Canadian content at TIFF, right? Is there a Terry Fox movie you want to talk about?

Yeah.

So there's a movie called Run, Terry, Run, which is coming out here in about a month.

But, of course, today is a Terry Fox run.

in Montreal.

But it's all done through archive footage and basically charts his marathon of hope.

But here's the thing that was kind of interesting about that.

What's that all about?

Body blow, body blow, body blow.

They were huge.

in the 90s and the 2000s, kind of these horror games.

And they spawned a whole series with Mila Jovovich that were pretty successful, but in my opinion, pretty terrible movies if you go back and you watch them now.

But this one is from Zach Kreger, who actually did Barbarian and Weapons last year.

Weapons was great.

And he really tried to do something completely different with the franchise, where it's just 90 minutes.

Is it fair to say that this is a good time for the documentary? I've seen a lot of great documentaries recently.

Actually, I was in an Uber the other day, and the driver was telling me about the storm.

It sounded like it was, uh, completely insane.

But yeah, like you said, there is a lot going on in Toronto this weekend, though, I must say, but no AC/DC, and they're playing Parc Jean-Drapeau tomorrow night.

They actually showed it at, they did a special screening for it at Cinema du Musée the other night, and people that worked on the movie were there, just like, you know, that had worked as technicians and stuff, and VFX.

But it's streaming on Apple TV+, And it's a really fun movie.

You know, it's a it's set in the 80s and it's kind of an 80s style buddy comedy with Ryan Reynolds and Kenneth Branagh.

And the funny thing is, the action is almost all Kenneth Branagh in the film.

They kind of relaunched him at 65 as an action star.

So if you wanna see one of the great musicals this weekend, at the Centaur Theater, Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street is playing, and it's the last couple of days.

And actually, I think the last shows are tomorrow night.

And this is considered one of the all-time greatest Broadway musicals.

Uh, Stephen Sondheim.

Uh, they're putting it on at the Centaur Theater.

Apparently, it's a great show.

Tell me about it.

It's very

much diehard on a cargo ship.

But here's an interesting thing, Ken, I don't know if you've heard this, but There was a big, big problem with Amazon the other day.

On Wednesday morning, they actually posted the entire movie, Mutiny, for four hours.

And it got crazy pirated, and it's all over the internet now.

And the studio that put it out, it's not even an Amazon movie, the studio that put it out, Lionsgate, now, apparently it's going to lead to multi-million dollar lawsuits from all the different people that are distributing in the different territories.

So what a crazy thing.

And Denis Villeneuve has given the reins, right?

Yeah.

But anyway, um, no, I wanted to do that, and, and, and, um, but no, but it was...

But, uh, anyway, um, w- w- when I saw that that wasn't possible, it just so happens that about a week before, I don't know why, but I just, like, felt...

It was Saturday night.

I'd had a couple drinks and, and I was, and I was, I was home alone, and I was like, you know, there's nobody around, and I was bored, and I decided to watch, I don't know why, I decided to watch Howard the Duck.

It showed up on, like, iTunes for, like, for, like, 4.99, and it was, like, in 4K, and I was like, "Oh, you know, I'll give it a, give it a shot." I...

When I was a child, Howard the Duck was my favorite movie.

So tell them about that

Uh, Lasso Montreal, uh, some big names this year.

So Thomas Rhett is gonna be performing tomorrow.

This is all at Parc Jean Drapeau, of course.

But then on Sunday, Mumford & Sons, and what's interesting about that is at a couple of their shows recently, Jason Sudeikis has actually been appearing with them to sing the Ted Lasso theme song because of course they did the song from Ted Lasso.

And I know Sudeikis loves Montreal 'cause he's shot a bunch of movies here.

Yeah.

And if you're like me, you spend the entire movie just questioning how th- this would work and what kind of a world [laughs] we would have, would people actually obey the law? So it's kind of a hard thing to get over, and I think that a lot of the reviews have been very negative because people are having the same experience as me, where the premise is so strange that they just cannot get past it.

Although, the chemistry between the leads is excellent.

That means he must be guilty of something." Um, but, uh, so why did he actually invoke the Fifth?

Right.

So h- here's the rub.

Uh, because the argument from the Republicans on the committee is you can't invoke the Fifth Amendment because you have a presidential pardon.

President Joe Biden, just as he was leaving office on January 19th in 2025, issued a blanket pardon to a lot of people, including Dr. Fauci.

And, uh, big premieres this year.

They just did Nicolas, uh, Refn's Her Private Hell last night, with Sophie Thatcher from, from Yellowjackets.

Not a movie I was a huge fan of, but it's opening in theaters next week, and it was a pretty big get for them.

Uh, tonight they're doing Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma, which is a crazy film that I saw at Cannes, directed by James Schoenborn, and stars, uh, Hannah Einbinder from, uh, from Hacks.

And she's actually gonna be at the screening tonight.

So that festival just keeps growing and growing.

What?

And this is the Moana remake, right?

It is.

It is.

So it's the live action remake of the of the animated film, but it's getting really kind of bad reviews.

And I have to say, having seen it for myself, you know what the problem is? When you watch an animated movie, there's a suspension of disbelief where you see them fighting monsters on the ocean and stuff like that.

And it feels like there's a certain I don't want to say realism, but you just kind of you kind of accept it.

But this one was actually kind of charming.

You know, the thing that I liked about it was that it's all set in old Hollywood in the 1920s.

And it's set in the silent era of filmmaking and has all these nods to like.

chaplin and buster keaton i mean stuff that's gonna go way way way over the heads of like the children that are watching it but it's the best reviewed movie in the franchise to date and i gotta say as a big movie fan i actually kind of enjoyed it so color me surprised i was not expecting to enjoy this one but i actually did so there you go it's a miracle

year's Superman reboot.

And here's the thing, Andrew.

I think that we've all seen so many superhero movies over the last, like, since Iron Man, so like the last 15 years, that it's really hard to keep them fresh.

I mean, we've just seen the same movie done over and over.

And this one at least does have a solid lead in Millie Alcock, who does her best as Supergirl.

But This is honestly one of the weaker superhero movies that I've seen in recent memories with pretty bad action, but the thing is, it's very, very dull.

Okay, so Johnny Knoxville, he's got white hair now.

What about, what's Death of Robin Hood?

Death of Robin Hood is a really dark deconstruction of the Robin Hood myth.

So it's basically Hugh Jackman as an older, middle-aged Robin Hood.

But what if he wasn't a hero? What if he was a bandit? What if he was, you know, kind of a bad guy? And the movie's similar in some ways to Logan, you know, his Wolverine movie, the old man Wolverine movie.

But, you know, this is Robin Hood and it goes much darker than that.

It's definitely not a Robin Hood movie like you would expect with lots of sword fights and adventure.

It's very grim, but Jackman's performance is great and Jodie Comer is really good in it too.

The Black Mirror experience, what's that? Oh,

mean, it's the latest Steven Spielberg.

And for me, as somebody who grew up with his movies, that's always an event, right? That's always something worth checking out.

And yeah, this is a really entertaining one.

It's not one of his classics, I don't think.

It's not...

in the same league as something like E.T. or Close Encounters of the Third Kind.

I don't know if he's an alien, but he's back in town and he's performing at the Beanfield Theater tonight.

Masters of the Universe is back?

That's right, yes.

So they're finally doing a big, like, another movie version of it.

There was the one in the 80s, you know, with Dolph Lundgren, of course, but never quite was able to capture the cartoon show.

And this, I mean, with its $200 million budget, I mean, they really...

It's like they put the cartoon on the big screen.

That said, though, you know, when I went to see it on Monday night, I would say that the audience was all 40 and 50 year old guys pretty much.

are we getting a new scary movie

When I just saw this description of it, I said, is this like Blair Witch Project from the 1990s? It's not

completely unlike that, but you know what it is? I don't know if you've ever heard of the phenomenon Creepypasta, which is basically these internet stories that have been kind of passed down the new version of urban legends.

And one of the most popular ones is this thing called the back rooms, which are these abandoned rooms with these ugly yellow fluorescent lightings that exist in a space, I guess, beyond time, right? And the movie is about that.

It's about a guy who runs a furniture shop in the late 80s who finds himself in one of these rooms and they're interconnected and they just go on forever.

It's very creepy and it's very strange.

But like you said, it's directed by a 20-year-old YouTuber and he's only the latest to kind of come along and make a big, you know, some big moves in Hollywood.

I mean, these movies that are being done by YouTubers, such as Obsession, which was done by Curry Barker, who's about 25, they're really starting to do really well at the box office.
