Chris Bonington

Now, all of a sudden.

So I have like a different sort of, you know, somebody would write like a Bonington book, you know, about like Everest on Sunday, you know, whatever, Everest the hard way.

I mean, that was one of the better ones.

But there were these giant books of, you know, thousands and thousands and thousands of words about one expedition.

Some of them British.

Sir Chris Bonington was one of them.

And also some of the Indian expeditions.

And so from my early years, it was really the adventure of the Himalaya that was a calling.

After serving in Nepal and learning the local language, he developed a lasting connection to the Himalayas.

He later helped organize major expeditions, led by renowned climber Chris Bonington, including the 1970 British expedition to Annapurna's South Face and a 1972 attempt on Everest's South Face.

His specialty was logistics.

coordinating hundreds of people and enormous amounts of equipment needed to reach some of the world's most difficult mountains.
