We start with Jason's pick this week, which is The Intern, a Korean remake of a Hollywood film and starring Choi Min-sik and Han So-hee.

And it has the same title.

Oh, yes.

And so as this intern at a company and...

You've got Anne Hathaway, who's basically his boss.

And so the Korean remake features Choi Min-sik in the original role, while Han So-hee basically co-stars as this CEO of a fashion company.

And yeah, it pretty much follows the original, directed and written by Nancy Meyers, following an older man who applies to be an intern.

... it's not a movie that I really felt like throwing myself over to, to protect.

But one person was, like, ranting to me about how, like, this movie is set in Taiwan and, and Choi Min-sik is the bad guy in it, and he's Korean.

And I was like, "Yeah, I mean, he plays a Korean gangster in the movie." Like, like-

Right

In the modern era, he has ships, coins, a Taekwondo form named after him.

He's had a ton of films and TV shows made about his life, including one where he's played by my favorite Korean actor, Choi Min-sik.

You might recognize as playing Oh Da-su, an old boy.

Solid choice there.

In a recent interview, Han explained that her character Sun Woo, a young CEO struggling with the weight of responsibility, mirrored her own habit of pushing herself too hard and trying to find all the answers alone.

The actress found particular resonance in a pivotal bar scene opposite Choi Min-sik, where his character's advice to eat well and sleep well suddenly felt directed at Han So-hee herself, rather than just her character, causing her to break down in tears during an unscripted emotional moment.

working alongside the legendary Choi Min-sik, taught Han not just about acting technique, but about respecting others regardless of age or status, inspiring her to become someone others would want to emulate.

The Korean remake of the Hollywood hit opens on September 16th, marking another step in Han's evolution from someone who works hard to someone who works well.

And the final stretch of Lucy, without giving away the details, reaches for imagery that owes an obvious debt to Stanley Kubrick's 2001.

A Space Odyssey, Besson is clearly a fan, and once you spot it, you can't unsee it.

And of course, if Choi Min-sik caught your eye, do yourself a favor and seek out Oldboy.
