While Shang-Chi is definitely returning for Doomsday and the Eternals definitely ain't, why does it seem like this mystery is likely to have a bigger impact than this mystery? In this episode, we're talking about two Marvel Studios movies that came out within just two months of each other in fall 2021, Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, directed by Destin Daniel Cretton, and Eternals, directed by Chloe Zhao.

A tale of two movies that both tried to advance the cinematic universe, one that opened doors to its future, another that marked a retreat.

What happened with both of these movies? And what do they represent to the MCU now in its Doomsday era? And while Shang-Chi is definitely set to be a huge star in Doomsday and Secret Wars, we're also going to talk about how the MCU isn't and really shouldn't be done with the Celestials either.

Maybe I would like it a little bit more if I wasn't thinking about how it doesn't make sense in a larger picture.

I don't know that I would.

I think some of the visuals in this, everybody wants to rave about the visuals and Chloe Zhao is a master director and clearly has shown in the Eternals and elsewhere, especially elsewhere, that she can capture some really incredible stuff on camera.

That fight in the forest, I couldn't even tell what was happening.

Remind me about the letterbox.

But the thing that he said, um, was, um, So Chloe Zhao.

So what they do is they...

It's like Tom Cruise.

And then just needed to kind of figure out the format, how we were going to tell it.

So we kind of moved away from a dock and adopted a little bit more of a hybrid approach like a Chloe Zhao, the rider, and just have them play a version of themselves.

So that was kind of the evolution of it.

Let's say a version of themselves.

Yeah.

And Chloé Zhao was like, "No, I want...

I'll just use that."

Yeah.

Yeah.

Chloe, Chloé Zhao.

The, the, you know, in the documentary field, the, the Ross brothers.

Um, Jonas Po- Poher, Ras- Rasmussen.

No, that was the one, that was the one.

I saw Chloe Zhao in, in conversation, which was interesting, but didn't get the scoop on what she's working on next.

She's always one of my best dressed.

She is.

Yeah.

There's something about it I'm picturing like a similar to what Chloe Zhao has talked about with her films like a Hamnet kind of thing where there's just like this kind of tranquility on the set that I can imagine for this movie.

So I do have a real question for you too though which is have you thought about would you undergo this treatment yourself? Would you clone yourself?
