Childebert I

Amalric, perhaps taking inspiration from Theoderic the Great's policy of forming marriage alliances, took the Frankish princess Crotilda as his wife.

Crotilda was the daughter of Clovis I, and she was also the sister to Childebert I, who was the Frankish king of Paris at the time.

Unfortunately for Crotilda, Amalric would, according to the 7th century chronicler Gregory of Tours, turn out to be something of an abusive husband.

Apparently, after Amalric and Crotilda were married, Amalric tried to force Crotilda to convert to Arianism.
