Child dedication

The order is important because the words have to inhabit the adults before they can impress them on their children.

On days like Child Dedication Sunday, that offers both a challenge but also, I think, a tremendous relief.

Parents, we can carry enormous pressure to produce spiritually successful children.

You're handed this like tiny human who can't sleep through the night or control any bodily function whatsoever.

And he loves to bring freedom, even to the most unlikely people anywhere, anytime.

You know, about fifteen years ago, we had a baby dedication, and the couple that was, you know, making promises about raising their new baby to know Jesus invited Grandpa and Grandma.

And Grandpa and Grandma were from a part of America that's mostly been populated by Dutch people.

And they are widely known to be very sober, disciplined, hardworking, reliable people.

Not given to any excesses of emotion.

Very formal in their approach to life and church, and that's who Grandpa and Grandma were.

So on this particular day, we did the baby dedication.

We get to the end of the service.

It was in VBS.

The other piece, it's a blessing that they pray over a kid here in Child Dedication.
