Taiwan's government on Saturday pushed back against speculation that Washington and Beijing might jointly co-manage Taiwan in the wake of the summit between President Donald Trump and Chinese leader Xi Jinping.

Deputy Foreign Minister Chen Ming-chi said the idea remains only China's intention and has not become reality, noting that Beijing does not even fully cooperate with Washington on Iran, a top American concern.

He stressed that US policy toward Taiwan remains unchanged and that communication channels remain open.

The Mainland Affairs Council separately said cross-strait dynamics remain unchanged on three fronts, suggesting Trump had turned the tables on Xi over Taiwan.
