Chef's Table

I want to get your thoughts on this.

So this one was sent in by Grammy and Emmy Award nominated filmmaker Danny O'Malley, a key part of Netflix's Chef's Table series and many other things.

Hi, Danny.

Thank you for writing in.

So about, [sighs] when I was leaving LA and New York, 2024, my, my friend Martini Paratore and I, uh, looked at the script again, just kinda blew it up and rewrote the whole thing.

It's a 30-minute kind of comedy pilot, and we're really proud of the script, and we got it to Andrew Fried, who, Andrew Fried, who is the producer of, um, Welcome to Wrexham and, um, you know, uh, Chef's Table and, uh, so many different hit shows on Netflix, Emmy Award-winning producer, and I n- he wanted to start directing some scripted stuff, and he really responded to the script.

So we said, you know, what Chris Stuckmann had done and what, um, a lot of these campaigns, when you look at the s- the success of say Obsession Backrooms, and we're just living in a very different time now where the audience really gets to decide more so than people saying, "Okay, well, we like this, but we don't like you to do it.

And I came across the restaurant of Dario Cecchini, very famous butcher, most famous butcher in the world.

He did an amazing Netflix episode on Chef's Table.

And I was on my own because my friend was not very well.

And I was eating a degustation menu.

We

were lucky enough to get Andrew Freed, who is the producer on Welcome to Wrexham, Chef's Table, that recent Charlie Sheen doc that came out.

and um we are we're looking to really push to to do this inside we were inspired by i mentioned obsession or mentioned um you know um back rooms i mentioned all these uh with the markiplier movie all these things that have happened and watching how different things are and we want to take that shot with, with television.

And we're really proud of it.

Other chefs were starting to respect what I was trying to do by telling the story that most people didn't get to see.

And it was around the time "Chef's Table" came out on Netflix, this series.

I don't know if you've ever seen it before, but-

"Chef's Table," yeah.

Um, so it was, like, this series, the first cinematic docuseries, I suppose, that really opened the doors of, of that culinary-

how to change the world is a 10 episode documentary series that is essentially like chef's table for social entrepreneurs so we're profiling getting into the nitty-gritty and the stories of people that have started companies to solve big problems in the world not just to make a lot of money

When you normally see a series like How to Change the World, put together by my guest, filmmaker Dylan Mulek, and the team at World Within Studios, the tendency is to brush it off as do-gooders doing good things.

Where is the conflict in that? A lot of great documentaries aren't seen because of these assumptions.

Walk me through the series.

Like when people watch it on YouTube starting on September 10th, what should they expect to see?

How to Change the World is a 10 episode documentary series that is essentially like chef's table for social entrepreneurs.

So we're profiling and getting into the nitty gritty and the stories of people that have started companies to solve big problems in the world, not just to make a lot of money.

And what's interesting about that is when you have people solving big problems, you have a character up against tremendous conflict.

And serialized shows.

And you're also having another thing happen, which is like Hollywood talent is getting jobs at creator companies, right? So now you have people who know how to make Chef's Table working at a cooking creator's channel.

And it's like, oh, okay, could we make that? Yeah, totally.

And then what's the economics of making that? Okay, it costs much more money.
