Atlanta officials are wrapping up the design phase of a transformation project for Memorial and Park on the 75-acre site of the former Chattahoochee Brick Company.

Here again is Normaya Vance.

The company profited from a convict leasing system that forced the black people to produce thousands of bricks under brutal conditions from the late 19th century until it was outlawed in 1908.

The idea of making it a memorial, but also making it a park to have access to the river, because Atlanta, we always hear from other places, you all don't have any water.

So now we'll have access to the Chattahoochee.

As of now, the city and its partners plan to refund the design and release a final report on the Chattahoochee Brick Company Memorial and Park Project.
