Its name was changed in 1890 to Pennsylvania College for Women, and then again in 1955 to Chatham College, named in honor of William Pitt, who was the first Earl of Chatham and the namesake of Pittsburgh.

It wasn't until 1994 that the college would expand from just an undergraduate women's college to having graduate programs for men and women in health and science studies.
