Château Frontenac

We stay in the hotel there, the big one, you know?

How much for her to go? Well, $230 plus lunch and sundry pocket money, approximately $70.

Yeah, we are in the old town, and we're just beside the statue of Samuel de Champlain, the founder of the oldest city of North America, Quebec City, 1608.

And we're just beside the Château Frontenac.

And just in front of the statue, there's the street theater show place, the Pitch, we call it.

And I just finished a show of 45 minutes acrobatic handstand breakdance.

mean, he liked total control, but it didn't mean he never did it.

The Chateau Frontenac's interiors are actually used in one of the movies we're going to be talking about today.

Yes, because depending on the time of year he was there, that hotel is never that full.

well as the carlton i wondered what i wonder when he shot uh it there anyway um also charles vanell is in to catch a thief who is in the wages of fear he's the oil puddle guy ah clearly dubbed by somebody else because every time he speaks it's like uh a japanese movie like it's like fully fully dubbed his lips are not matching the dialogue but

It's not a Hitchcock Sterling classic, but I do enjoy it.

And having been to Quebec city, it is amazing how much I recognize.

And I stayed at the Chateau Frontenac, which features in this film quite a bit.

And Hitchcock stayed there while they were shooting a hotel that also hasn't changed at all.

I mean, the Chateau Frontenac in Quebec City.

Yes, I've heard of that one.

So, and we saw tons of stuff and, and like, we did things that I'd never done.

Like we had brunch in the Chateau Frontenac, which was gorgeous and lovely.

And we did like, so I, and then we did things that were different, like that I'd done sort of, but like, we did it differently.

So like, when i was there before i remember we went on like a tour in the plains of abraham and like they talked to us a little bit about the the fortifications and stuff like that but when i was there with with tim and juan we did um a scavenger hunt like they had like a scavenger hunt game and so you went and checked in at the museum and they gave you this big old-fashioned like burlap backpack and so and it was stuffed with things and so and then like there was a little booklet that like the first page would give you a clue and you had to figure out where to go then you would go there and then something in the backpack would help you do something at that location and then it would tell you you would figure out the clue and then it would tell you the next page to go to to find the next clue and anyway we we didn't quite finish it we didn't we had an hour and 45 minutes and it wasn't quite enough time But it was like, truly it had us going everywhere.

Peter and I, we just went to Quebec City.

I actually sent my Golden Girls a picture by the actual Chateau Frontenac.

And the joke was, I was like, oh my God, did I get Peter Capaldi Epcot? What? And literally the steakhouse there at the Chateau Frontenac, I mean, they have their beautiful Champlain restaurant, but there's a steakhouse like sort of adjacent and it's called Le Cellier.

So then I, he was like, can we stop? I said, no, we're taking all these pictures because this is funny.

Okay.

You have the historic streets of Old Quebec, cafes, restaurants, and then you layer a winter festival on top of all of that.

Beyond the Ice Palace and night parades, events include the traditional ice canoe race, the famous snow bath, ice bars, and even opportunities for some particularly adventurous visitors to rappel down the Fairmont Le Château Frontenac.

And now February gets considerably louder because 2027 has an interesting calendar feature.

Fat Tuesday falls on February 9th, putting several of the world's great Carnival celebrations into a remarkably concentrated period.
